Andrew767
Hi John I'm just pulling the bits together for my build and i also intend to use 2200mah 3spacks. I'm going to use an Airtek EX2830/1000 motor, a 40amp esc with a 9x6 prop. Should be enough for this little plane. Hope this helps Andrew

Can anyone who's finished their build tell me what the weight of the airframe sans motor, battery, servo's etc should be please. It's just so i have a target to aim for. Thanks Andrew
Kevin Fairgrieve
Andrew. Nev gives some pointers in this thread. Set up. I am currently building my first electric model, so can offer no advise at all. As for weight, expect it to come in around 2.5lb. My IC power`d version comes in at 2.8lb. Andrew767
Hi Kev Thanks for that. I can aim for 2.5lb AUW. Andrew
Martyn K
How many ACTIVE Mini Jazz Builders/completed models are there? Not a lot of activity here? Roll call? I am building one. Martyn
Martin U
Mine is done, just waiting for spring. Red & yellow with flames.
Masher
Mine is done and has been extensively trialled! I love it. Bit disappointed in the turn out though - although for those still pondering, the Mini Jazz can be built very quickly (and cheaply) Martin
Martyn K
Hi Masher I agree that this can be a very quick build. Only started yesterday and I have almost finished the wing and I have finished the fin and tailplane. I need to get a fuel tank and engine mount before I get too far into the fus thoughh. What did you use (or anyone) for the undercarriage? Martyn
Masher
I used an old undercarriage I had lying around - which I cut down to suit. I have beefed up the undercarriage mounting after a few heavy arrivals - I now have a piece of 1/4 ply
Kevin Fairgrieve
Hi Martyn. Mine came from Carbon Copy. There was at one time a special offer on them. See earlier in the thread. Kev
Martyn K
Thanks all. Anyone planning to take a mini or maxi Jazz to Greenacres (besides me)? M
Robin Kearney
Hi Martyn, I'm planning on building a Mini Jazz and will hopefully make it to Greenacres this year. I've not started yet, so will have to get a wiggle on though, but I have a rescued OS 10 sitting unused, so would be nice to give it a home! Masher
Yes I'm planning to make my first visit to Greenacres this year
Ian Southerton 1
If the weather's ok, i'll be there with my electric Jazz (90% finished) but i won't be flying as i don't have my 'A' cert. Ian.
Masher
And if there is still anyone dithering over a Mini Jazz build, an extra point in its favour is handling in the wind. I had half a dozen flights with mine this morning in 15mph winds and 30mph gusts (according to weather forecast) and the MJ really enjoyed it - so did I. Excellent value in terms of smiles per minute! My only concern is that I don't wreck it before the fly-in!
Martyn K
Always a risk...especially with something that is fun to fly. How does your model cope on take off with those small wheels? M
Masher
Hi Martyn Wheels are fine - and our strip is pretty rough at the minute. I think it's because the plane is so light. It is also easy to hand launch - there must be something wrong with this model, I just haven't found it yet Martin
Martyn K
Cheers. That's good to know
Kevin Fairgrieve
Posted by Martyn K on 23/03/2014 21:35:33: Thanks all. Anyone planning to take a mini or maxi Jazz to Greenacres (besides me)? M I shall be taking all three of mine. My original. My MKII for the Mass Build. And my 140% enlargement. Or "Maxi Jazz". Trevor Downey
Hello all, new to this forum. Just flew my MJ for the first time today. Windy as hell, but I've fitted an ET Guardian, it flew really nicely. Picked it up at the recent Rettendon swap-meet, came with a Magnum GP 10, seems more than adequately powerful, still running it in. Would a 15 be a much better idea, or even a 20. Please don't try to persuade me to convert it to electric, I've got electric models, they're great...but my MJ is staying glow.

Masher
Mine is on a 15 and now that I have got used to it, I wouldn't want any less and i'm a bit surprised that the plan only calls for a 10. My model is spot on design weight of 2ibs and is sporty but not over powered IMHO
Kevin Fairgrieve
My first is on a .15. My second is on a .12. Both SC engines. The .12 is as yet unflown but seems to have plenty of grunt on the ground. A friend of mine built one and shoe horned a .25 in the front. It was a very short messy flight that ended in tears. And a big pile of matchwood. Kev
