Dylan's Dawn Flyer 200%

Recommended Posts

Well, today I decided to dig the wing out again...

This half has been in storage for months, so I decided to make up it partner, first of all laying out the "plan" (scribble/drawing/fag packet) delete as required...

Since the drawing is for the existing wing I layed out all the ribs and marked them for the reverese order to make a pair of wings as opposed to 2 lefts smile p

TIP - large lego (duplo) blocks make excellent tools for making sure ribs are square!

After a bit of fettling and gluing....

Then a bit more fettling, attaching of scrap and gluing, we have an almost complete wing...

Dylan

I spent 2 days on google looking for spoked wheels, eventually found a pair of Topflite 4" wheels in Athens, got them in 5 days.

Passed on this info to a greek forumite who was looking for same wheels,he contacted the shop in Athens but it looks like I got the last pair, tried to help our greek friend and came up with a shop in Finland showing a pair of 4.5" Topflite wheels.

He came back to me saying the they were out of stock but would order them for him,he was back within a week or so telling me he had the wheels. €39.

The shop is called Hobbypeople.com Finland

Might be worth a look, hope this might help, great build by the way, stick at it.

Decided to put in a double spar at rear with shear webbing, so some hacking ensued and job done...

After re capping, and doing a trial fit again, I can't help but think it needs more in the way of support, it will have rigging wires externally to support the wings, but thinking of dropping in this 12x12mm hardwood wing joiner inside the D-Box section, belt and braces or overkill?

I can see where you're coming from, Dylan, but my 76" Carl Goldberg Cub only had these ply braces fore and aft and, despite my reservations, has held up well;

If you do add the spar, I'd have thought three bays either side would be plenty.

I'm inclined to agree PV and yes you are right, it's a stooger for those long calm sunny evenings we are going to have very soon smile p

Thanks Cymaz, erm......(I went to a shop and bought them smile o , oh and it's a errrr....hmmmm....ahhhh...leccy job smile d

Well the wing is now nearly complete, and I decided NOT to add the spar, at the moment it stands floor to ceiling save 1", and I still have 14" of wing tips to add, somethging tells me I shouldn't have done this as a one piece wing dont know

So onwards we go, the next job was to draw and cut the wing tips, get them glued on and strengthend...

The next job was fitting the servo hatches

10462315_10152893921231274_4652287817639841343_n.jpg

and then adding and sanding the real leading edge, I used hard 12mm balsa for this and ran a piece across the centre to create a bit more reinforcment in the way of another spar

I can't stress enough how important a good quality dust mask is when doing this dirty horrible job, your lungs are worth so much more on the open market if they are working wink 2smile p

12274693_10153279799936274_216796704322219322_n.jpg

Ooooo and then a prop, just for effect smile d...

12241757_10153279803516274_5447124612329949079_n.jpg

And now in the process of fitting a phosphorous Bronze mesh grill....

12274634_10153279840056274_1560416615952808021_n.jpg

Once all done I sahll fit the ESC and then move onto sorting the wings out and then fitting out, then it may just be ready for Greenacres next year (only 2 years late) party
