Wendy (Perfect-Pilots)
How to make quick and easy wing bags. They make storage and transport of wings so much easier. This is what we used: aluminised bubble wrap (sold for loft insulation) tape - glass reinforced tape and duct tape wooden dowel for handles magnets for closing
Levanter
Are you telepathic Wendy. I was just about to post a question about making wing bags without spending a fortune. Yes truly! It is becoming a bit of a necessity. Now I know and it is a great idea. Thanks
Wendy (Perfect-Pilots)
Hi Levanter3 That must be telepathy ! So glad that this idea is helpful to you. The bags are easy to make, the materials are readily available and the low cost is a great bonus - we estimate that each bag cost about £3 - £4 - amazing! Hope you enjoy the project! simon burch
Does the aluminium rub off at all? Just remember reading someone using the same material and mentioning that it had marked the covering. Need to make some awkward sized bags, will give it a go. Cheers, Simon
Wendy (Perfect-Pilots)
Simon ours are just recently made, so don't know whether the aluminium will rub off. We would be very surprised because looking at the material it doesn't seem likely. Hope it lasts okay! Just to be on the safe side it may be an idea to wrap the wing in a piece of fabric before placing it in the bag.
adrian lawrence 1
Hi Wendy, thanks for the information, I'm going to give it a go. Regards Adrian
Martyn Garrett
Made some of these two years ago. Still in regular use and no, in my experience the aluminium doesn't rub off! Just make sure you clean any fuel or oil from the wings before you put hem away so the inside of the bags stays clean. All my wings are now stored and transported in bags very similar to these, although I don't go as far and handles or magnet closures. cymaz
I use the same stuff, very good. The bag will stand up to use very well. The aluminium does not come off. And it is shower proof as well.
Bob Cotsford
Self-adhesive velcro works well for closures and I use radiator insulation from B&Q which is the same material by the look of it
Yobyid
Hi Wendy I've had a 'Google' and have come across a few variations of 'aluminised bubble wrap' - some cheap and some expensive - so would you let me know which supplier you used? Regards, Les
Wendy (Perfect-Pilots)
Hi Les We bought the aluminised bubble wrap on ebay: Ebay item 221464960257 It was very reasonable and seems to be quite good quality. Regards Wendy

Vecchio Austriaco
small hint - for those who can handle a sewing machine - all glued connections (Duck tape or whatever) have problems with transport in cars and may open or get sticky. I use sewing instead. Cover the edges of a bag with a strip of material folded around the edge - in the example shown I used some Christmas decorative tape- woven of corse. This gives the whole thing a professional look. Temperature in a car or in the loft will no longer give you any glue problems. Also the Velcro pad is sewn on, even it is adhesive covered. Peter Jenkins
Notwithstanding the bubble in the aluminium, I go for double protection and use ordinary bubble wrap glued to the inside of the aluminium sheet to maximise protection. I hadn't thought of the handles though! Nice solution.
Wendy (Perfect-Pilots)
Thanks for all the interest in the wing bags and the useful tips for improvement. Vecchio Austriaco your bags with the tape sewn around the edges look great - very professional and long lasting.
