I would recommend "OSMO -Polyx OIL" Two coats with a very light sanding in between coats. Then a light rub down with 000 wire wool and beeswax will give a sheen that's superb. It's proof against pretty well anything a table will have thrown at it. You can also "patch repair" without it showing.

Same here - very durable and doesn't change the natural wood colour
