Peter Miller
Nice job on the planking. Ten minutes with a razor plane and sandpaper and it will look fabulous. Just done a lot of planking on my new model.
Charles Galloway
Thanks for the support guys. My motor has just arrived, Turnigy 4240 620, so another step nearer.
Charles Galloway
After lots of sanding I have a basic fuselage shell. Even planking was enjoyable compared with building the wing.
john stones 1 - Moderator
I doubt we will see one better than that Charles John
Danny Fenton
You really have got a wriggle on Charles, they look super! Progress will slow down from this point I reckon Lots of faffing about, certainly for me. Cheers Danny
Charles Galloway
Probably going to look at the wing fitting next. As you say Danny, lots of faffing to come.
Charles Galloway
Getting on with the wing fixing, but have had to order some longer bolts. Off topic, but I've just bought the Brian Taylor Gladiator plan and wondered if any of you experts had built / flown it. Looks like it would make a good electric conversion. Terry Walters
Going well Charles - I see you are already planning for the future! I'm sure there will be some out there who can help with that one. Terry
Danny Fenton
I haven't built the Gladiator Charles, it would be a nice one to do, but there is oh so much detail in that one! 4 flaps over two wings for a start! Not to mention shock absorbing wheel hubs..... I have heard of a few and they nearly always struggle to keep the weight down, especially in the tail.. Yes it would go electric very well but cell access may be an issue? Personaly I would take the drawing and scale it up I will be watching when you build it though Cheers Danny
Charles Galloway
Thanks for that Danny. There's a hatch just behind the cowl which at first sight might allow a battery to drop in vertically. It would be about as forward as it could be without being inside the cowl itself. It looks like a lot of work, but hey! no planking. Charles.
Charles Galloway
Well! after much faffing and guestimation I've ended up with rear wing fairings. They still need some sanding and shaping, but at least they're on.
A.A. Barry
looks good to me Charles Barry
john stones 1 - Moderator
Just getting on with that bit, yours looks very good Charles Nice pics as well very useful John
Charles Galloway
Thanks John, The trickiest part for me was deciding where the rear point should go. Once I decided to go with that, I shaped G3 to match the flap position and built it up from there. 'A galloping man on a blind horse' etc. Charles. Terry Walters
Charles - looking nice. I think this is a build that favours the brave! Well done - I've got all that to come yet! Terry
Nigel Day
Nice work Charles. Fancy doing a couple more?
Charles Galloway
Slow progress at the moment. I've put in the rudder and elevator pushrods and servos. I've stuck silver tape inside the cockpit. I did a sample piece with rivets which looks ok, so I'm just about to try riveting the cockpit. Charles Galloway
Yes John, much more enjoyable than the wings. All this scale stuff is new to me. I've been building/flying for over 40 years but the nearest to scale I've got is very much cartoon scale, Flair WW1 models etc. I've tried a couple of Taylor plans but always given up because I could never get the retract geometry correct. Got the front cockpit riveted this evening. Not all the same size but should be ok when painted! Charles.
