Sadly, as might be expected there is an obvious flaw in this. Not the silly one which links sat navs somehow inexplicably to a linear formula.

The flaw is that, as has been stated, x=y. Thus (y2 -xy) will always be zero. If you divide both sides by (y2 -xy) then you are dividing both sides by 0 which of course cannot be done.

Is Zero not a Japanese WW2 warbird, did realise they were in algebra?
