Rich too
A little more work done. I got the motor mount cut and ready to fit. However, I have a problem, there is damage to the tail that I nearly missed - see photos, any bright ideas on how to strengthen/fix this without major surgery? Rich too
I'm thinking some rigging underneath (scale?) could add the necessary strength? And soak that break in thin cyno...possibly splice some new wood in....
Leslie Crane 1
Rich2, you have ribs either side of the wood so substantial triangular gussets should be fine. Les
john stones 1 - Moderator
Strip of good quality thin ply on it's edge will do it for me, the patch will look like a scale repair John
cymaz
Carbon rod perhaps? Oh, found this for you If it was mine, I would do a complete strip of all the covering and have new. You may find other breaks under the covering. Edited By cymaz on 11/03/2016 06:20:
Rich too
Thanks guys, I think a combination will do it - cymaz, I looked for ages for some decent pics - cheers John, you mean just between the two ribs?
Manish Chandrayan
Flat carbon strip (around 1.5/2mm thick and suitably wide) glued over the spar would do the job. If you can notch the ribs and let the strip in that would add to the strength. Not as strong as carbon strip but 1/16 ply strip should also work. Since the scale tailplane struts are missing, adding those would not only enhance the looks but also add support to the tailplane structure
Rich too
I finally completed a repair. Not very pretty but a block glued in, together with the carbon struts I've fabricated, there should be plenty of strength.
