Phil Cooke
Amazingly Tim my bombs arrived from HobbyKing today too! Quite impressed with the units, need to rig them to the Sea Fury and we are good to go! Bombs Away!!!
Andy Meade
Were the release servos included in the mounts Phil?
Robert Armstrong 2
E-Flite do a 'Servoless Payload Release' (EFLA405). These can be daisy chained together and have a variety of modes allowing a 'ripple' release with various delays or multiple individual releases. Comes with a payload carrier but no payload. Perfect for the multiple hardpoints on an A-10 or Tornado. Or the engine pods on a B-52….

Andy Meade
I found that release system - quite nice too, but expensive. I was going to try and make salvo releases work on the Libby with an Arduino, but this might be easier.
Tim Mackey
The HK bomb units do indeed come with a servoless release hard point pretty good value I reckon at just about £7, including a spare release plate. Incidentally, I had already placed quite a large order with H-King the day before and ordered my bombs the following evening. Staggered to receive a SMS text the following morning to say they were on their way. Arrived 2 hours later !!
Steve Houghton 1
So how does that nose cone cover stay on, as mine doesn't? My Tiffy already has a servo release system built into the wings so I won't be using the HK release system. Instead I shall have to fabricate a light ply and balsa mounting plate glued to the bombs, and the mounting plate will drop with the bomb, obviously. Because of this, I doubt I will be able to open the bombs to add talc/flour or whatever substance to the inside. I'm assuming I will also have to add a little nose weight into each bomb so that it drops in a nose down fashion and not just tumble through the air aimlessly? But how much weight? ¼ oz? ½ oz? So this is tomorrows task before my building board becomes covered in Skyhawk build.
Andy Meade
The tail on the back should force it to fall nose first. Give it a lob in the air, see what happens!
Steve Houghton 1
Ah ok, cool I'll try lobbing it tomorrow. That'll take me back to when I was a kid in the 70's chucking these in the air.
Mark Kettle 1
When we where kids at school my best mates' dad designed those cap bombs, the designer at the time lived in Lancing near Worthing.
Andy Meade
Did you use them to scare off the Viking Invaders? Please don't hit me.

Steve Houghton 1
So I've had to fabricate my own bomb mounts to fit my existing system. And attached to the bombs. Just waiting for the glue to set properly before trying them on the wings.

Phil Cooke
hehe great stuff - nice that you've been able to use the same release mechanism with the little mod - I'm just fitting the same bombs on my Sea Fury, they will be very similar, I think your Typhoon is a little bigger but should still look good together on the attack run. Phil Cooke
Bump. Who else is readying their aircraft with a bomb drop system then? **LINK**
Steve Houghton 1
Has anyone worked out how the cone on the HK bomb is supposed to stay on?
Phil May
I'm looking at the possibility of fitting the smaller SLEC bomb to my MiG but have no idea how to make the drop mechanism...Any advice guys.Cheers.Edited By Phil May on 16/03/2016 08:33:
Andy Meade
The drop mechanism is included in the SLEC version, you just need to add a small servo with a short control link to the latch. If you need photos of what they look like, let me know.
Steve Houghton 1
A small servo Phil. Mine uses a snake from the servo which goes through the hole in the plate I made to hold it in place. When you activate the servo with a switch, the snake pulls back releasing the bomb. A single bomb mounted centrally under the wing would be good on yours mate. Andy Meade
You won't need any of that on the SLEC one - it has a mount with retracting teeth in it, and the bomb has hooks in the top. Just a small (9g) servo) will pull that latch back no probs.
