Geoff S
What a fantastic photo! It's not only a good record shot but it's got great composition too - quite by good luck rather than good management. Did Aird live to fly again or did he call it a day after his extreme good fortune? Geoff
John Privett
According to the article Ken linked to, "George was back flying again within six months and on Lightnings a year after the accident."
John Privett
And from another article linked from the first article, "George retired from de Havillands (British Aerospace) in 1983 but continued executive and airline flying until his 65th birthday in 1993. Henow has an NPPL." I don't know when that was written, but if George was 65 in 1993 he'd now be coming up to 88 so I'm not sure if he'd still be using his NPPL. kc
Geoff said " it's got great composition too - quite by good luck rather than good management" Actually the original photo was published in Amatuer Photographer decades ago and shows the whole scene- it was greatly improved by cropping in the darkroom. In the whole shot the tractor is pretty insignificant! The plane was not as near the tractor as it appears. But the camera never lies.........
