bert baker
So I am nearly ready to order the covering for a Pup, My plan was to use Solartex,,,Olive Drab and the cream colour but for the life of me I can't remember if it is Antique or Linen. Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
I'd use Antique as it has more of "yellowy" tint to it - like a deep cream. Which matches the original better I think.I used it on a Dawn Flyer - so its this sort of colour,... Kevin Fairgrieve
I used Antique on mine all over. Then painted PC10 on the top surfaces. Kev

bert baker
That's what I thought, that one was more see through. I might have to get a selection and try.
Daithi O Buitigh
The original covering on the full size was 'brown' (unbleached|) linen. It wasn't exactly brown but more of a cream colour (as someone eld enough to remember the linen mills working here, I've actually seen the stuff)
Andy Green
Mick Reeves Models sell a linen solartext 'to their spec' I used it on my 1/4 scale pup. Their site isn't easy to navigate so suggest you phone them. Andy
Jimbo565
Bert This is Linen, old KK Gipsy scaled up to 60"
i12fly
I used linen solartex on my pup, antique is too see through -unless your wood work is perfect -and all the ribs etc are to scale.....
Bob Cotsford
I have a BUSA Bristol M1 kit tucked away so I was shopping for 'tex at Cosford. I saw 5M rolls of 'Olive Drab' and 2M rolls of 'Dark Green' - both looked identical (apart from the price, obviously). Just how arbitrary are the colour codes? I plumped for Dark Green for the top and Linen for the undersides, the Linen just looked right to me.
bert baker
Yeah the wood work aint that great to look at as I have added loads of extra reinforcment. I have also concidered White. Many thanks for your help Bert
Daithi O Buitigh
At a guess, most greens are inaccurate (Judging by the unrestored aircraft in the IWM a lot of years back, PC10 tended to be more towards the brown end of the spectrum). If anyone wants to 'mix your own', here's the recommendation from the government department at the time (it was mixed on site by the aircraft makers so it would never have been 'standard' and there would have been variations. This made 100 imperial gallons of the stuff (obviously you'd want to use proportionately less) 260 pounds nitro Cellulose syrup 74 pounds of pigments in the following proportions 40 pounds yellow ochre 30 pounds umber 2 pounds 8 ounces Red Ochre 1 pound 8 ounces Chinese Blue. Once that lot was assembled it was added to 20 gallons Acetone or Methyl ethyl ketone 15 gallons Amyl Acetate 15 Gallons benzol 15 gallons Methylated spirit Edited By Daithi O Buitigh on 02/08/2016 12:13:
