Colin Leighfield
There's no chance of getting a Malyan 150 or 180 in reasonable time, so looking at the information I can find I've decided that the Wanhao i3 Duplicator looks promising. All the write-ups I've seen are good. It appears to have everything I will need included a heated glass bed. It's coming from Technology Outlet and delivery will be after 10 January. Total cost including print spray pro-pack and 1kg of filament +vat is £334. I'm told that's all I need to get started. I'm totally green and clueless, but hopefully I will work my through it. Ian Jones
Sounds like a good deal, looking forward to hearing how you go on with it. Edited By Ian Jones on 22/12/2016 23:59:
Colin Leighfield
It will probably be a slow start Ian, I have a lot to learn.
Tony Bennett
can you teach me while you are at it.
Colin Leighfield
Certainly Tony, it will be the blind leading the blind, but I think you're quicker on the uptake than I am!

McG 6969
May I be "blind" as well now, please... just for this post? Following with interest, Colin. And quite 'envious', I must admit. Cheers Chris
Colin Leighfield
Please do Chris. It will probably be hilarious because I don't even know where to begin!
Graham R
I'm another interested follower. just started trying to get to grips with 123d software.
Colin Leighfield
Hi Graham. Now you've got me. What's 123d software? I probably need to know! (I am the very definition of dim).
Graham R
It's a bit like tinkercadd. It's software that you develop your 3d object on that you want to print. There are other threads on this forum about 3d printing. Graham
rcaddict
colin dont worry Im on day 2 and if your like me you will be printing "off the shelf" upgrades for your printer so you will soon get used to it

McG 6969
I certainly wouldn't open it, Colin. Think about your Chipmunk build that you finally promised to go on with !!! Cheers Chris
Colin Leighfield
Chris, you're right. I'be been an idiot all of my life.
Ian Jones
Wahao, that looks the biz (sorry!).
Colin Leighfield
You're right though Ian, it is! Very little to do out of the box. Fix the tower and the bed together with 4 small Allan head bolts and plug in some connectors. Turn it on and follow the instructions, which are good. They have to be with a dimwit like me! I'll be going steady with this, too many other things to do and learn, but it looks promising, very pleased so far. It's got the heated glass bed that everyone seems to think is important and I've got a kg. pack of the pla to get started. Very pleased with Technology Outlet so far, I think that for something that is basically ready to go as received this is good value. I'll see if I can run it tonight. Andy Meade
Nice Is that a big silver spray can of bed release (hair spray!) that came with it?
rcaddict
andy its not a release its the opposite - to hold the print on the bed - i use photo mount out the pound shop
Andy Meade
Thanks OG - in my mind I think of it as a release agent, as I always struggle getting ABS off an aluminium bed! I use an acetone slurry painted on to that to do the same job, but I see there are some fancy thin plastic sheets that are in vogue at the moment for doing a cleaner and less wasteful job. A commercial one here Or a basic PEI sheet here
Colin Leighfield
I had my first go with it tonight. It's easy to set up following the instructions. However I can't get it to print! Everything seems as it should and I've set the clearances on the print bed, but it's not doing what it should. Clearly I'm doing something wrong. I'll take another look tomorrow. Colin Leighfield
I got it working today, problem was me, as you might have guessed. fascinating to see it working. Now I have to start understanding how to create files to make the things I want, not a clue yet.
Colin Leighfield
Here's another video.
Colin Leighfield
One more. I like the look of this. First time failed because I forgot to spray the fixative onto the glass bed. Second attempt was without the glass bed, with fixative. Next will be with glass bed and fixative.
