Cuban8
I didn't bother watching the first run of this BBC series when it first appeared, but have been watching the recent re-runs on BBC 4. Comedy is very much a matter of personal taste and I'm notoriously hard to please especially with much of what is purveyed as funny these days. 'Detectorists' is very much the exception. Wonderfully understated and with many parallels to our hobby (eccentric farmers, arguments over the best gear, rules and regs, unwelcome visitors, even club talks) I find it very amusing indeed, only got as far as episode 3 at the moment, so I'm intrigued as to what else will turn up (!). Bought the box set as I think it's one of those programmes that can stand being seen again and again. Just wondered if anyone else shares the same view. Pouring with rain and a gale blowing outside at the moment, so I might watch another episode over lunch.
Andy Green
Have to agree, a slow starter, but once you are into it, you are hooked. League of Gentlemen was the last one like that for me. Also saw the similarity to our hobby. A

If it reminds some people of "our " hobby , I am trying to see who I resemble ???
Devcon1
Great TV with some fine music, particularly like some of the club meetings scenes and encounters with the AntiquiSearchers ....

Steven S
it popped up on Netflix last week and I've started watching it. I enjoyed it, but have only watched the first episode so far. Didn't realize that Diana Riggs' daughter was in it. Loved "The Avengers" back in the sixties.

Andy Green
So who watched the last episode of what is probably the best TV for a long time. Bet we can all relate to the Gazebo scene. A

Cuban8
Haven't seen the final episode as yet, but the series has been a delight. No need for the occasional very bad language though, the comedy really didn't need it. Sign of the times I suppose. Series three is a tad weaker that the first two and I think Mackenzie Crook is correct to finish at this point. Imagine what he might have done with 'aeromodellists'
Geoff S
Posted by Andy Green on 14/12/2017 15:08:06: So who watched the last episode of what is probably the best TV for a long time. Bet we can all relate to the Gazebo scene. A I bet Andy Symmons can! I remember helping him struggle with his caravan awning at one of the excellent Castle Howard fly-ins he used to organise. He called me his erection specialist for a while I watched the last episode last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I suppose it appeals to 'nerds' and 'geeks' like most hobbyists ... including aeromodellers. I often wonder what people without a hobby or pastime do with their spare time. I'm a serial hobbyist - motor bikes; dinghy racing; cycling; aeromodelling - and enjoyed them all immensely. Geoff

kenking-King Design
Wouldn't miss it for the world ! The gazebo scene, to the music from the barn-raising exercise in 'Witness", was so well presented, especially (in the background) the wooly-headed member of 'Simon & Garfunkel' collapsing down the ladder after having swigged Sheila's infamous lemonade. Absolutely hilarious, but so beautifully understated. A far cry from the bulk 'humour' on tv, which is all shouting and screaming.

SIMON CRAGG
Thanks for the heads up on the special edition. This has got to be one of my all time favourite shows, with many parallels to model flying clubs. The village hall, the enthusiastic chairman, somewhat apathetic audience and of course the pub scenes. The last episode was a masterpiece. Happy endings all round, beautiful weather and fantastic music. Must have watched it half a dozen times. Just brilliant!
