GlidingGuy
So I was given this Mills engine in quite a bad condition. I have taken it to bits and cleaned it out however it still needs work on the outside. Despite the looks it runs quite well. Does anyone know what model this is or if its Mills/Indian Mills? Manish Chandrayan
The Indian made Mills had India stamped in the backplate. Going by the empty limiter pin hole on the head , I would say it's not an India Mills. But the black painted case very much looks like and Indian made exampleEdited By Manish Chandrayan on 03/08/2018 19:21:
Richard Harris
Looks like an original to me with a magnesium crankcase, just missing the fuel tank. If the black is paint then it could be a P series Indian Mills Great little motor that should be flown Rich
Doug Campbell
It is an original mk2 Mills .75. The black finish on the crankcase is to protect the magnesium alloy it was cast from. Treat it with care otherwise you will have a pile of white dust. See link below You can get pattern tanks on ebay but both the locating lugs need to be present on the tank top. There are complete irvine venturis and tanks on ebay for £12 which will fit. http://adriansmodelaeroengines.com/catalog/main.php?cat_id=84 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Irvine-Tank-Venturi-Assembly-Mills-75-long-range-UK-Model-shop/192588620537?hash=item2cd72d22f9:gqkAAOSwnEtbP0LU
GlidingGuy
Thanks for the details. Luckily I already have the original tank however I just removed it for the purposes of running it for a longer time.
Engine Doctor
Have a look in the back-plate , if it says Made in England then it's a genuine Mills. The black finish is to protect the magnesium as already stated. It isn't paint but a chemical treatment . I have found that washing the casing thoroughly in cellulose thinners to degrease it then applying a Matt black cellulose paint .Allow to dry thoroughly then oil with some model diesel fuel gives a good replication of the original finish.
