Glenn Stevenson
Hi, I picked up a Seagull turbo raven artf new in box at Weston, anybody had one of these, trying to decide on an engine. I have a 91fs or a OS55ax or maybe one or two others. the 91 is a favourite but may not provide the performance to make it fly well. As usual all comments are welcome. Denis Watkins
Glen, you already have the OS55AX, that the turbo was made for What are you looking for Do you have a difficult airstrip Edited By Denis Watkins on 17/06/2019 20:21:
Glenn Stevenson
The 91 will fit in the cowl without too much cutting and sounds much nicer, our airstrip could be a bit smoother but is plenty big enough. I have trouble making these difficult decisions!
Denis Watkins
A good OS55, as they had some problems, will exhilerate the Raven The 91fs, is more akin to a bigger more flowing model, Astro Hog, big Cub, Warbird, World Models Super Sport, XL, Wots

Glenn Stevenson
Stephen, Not sure how I can get a wren turbine in this little plane!
Paul Marsh
I have one with a 50 engine in it. Plenty of power.
Glenn Stevenson
Hi Paul How did you get the cowl round the silencer, did you split it at the back? Glenn
Paul Marsh
No, slides over. The 50 is a compact engine, but fitted it last. Trick is to cut a hole for the silencer, and two small holes for the bolts the other - perfectly aligned. Then bolt the silencer when in place. Glenn Stevenson
Tried my Turbo raven yesterday, the thing was unflyable! dropped left wing as soon as it got off the ground and luckily didnt do any damage. Got one of my expert mates to try it after changing prop from a 12x6 to a 12x8 as it didnt seem quick enough to avoid a stall, He managed to get it into air but fought a difficult battle to keep it flying and dropped it in long grass. Just bent the undercarriage a bit so took it home to think about it (or sell it!) C of g is 145mm from leading edge at root in the manual but various forums all said to bring it forward a bit so mine is nose heavy at 135mm. Can anyone who flys his tell me where it balances? Denis Watkins
Which motor did you settle on Glenn ?
Glenn Stevenson
I forgot to say, its the OS55 max virtually new, pulled a wot 4 round very well. Glenn
simon barr
I had one, electric powered.... Lasted two flights! The first flight was ok but felt like, as you say, the c of g was a bit too far back, so I moved it forward for the second flight... Took off, and the thing just spun in on me doing a reasonably fast turn. The same thing happened to one belonging to a club mate a couple of years ago. Awful thing... I'm surprised it is still being produce and sold.
Denis Watkins
Another question Glenn, before I go flying With a wing off, measure the profile of the wing rib that sits in the side of the fuselage, as the wing seat Measure from the Leading edge point, to the centre of the wing tube hole Do you get 145mm? As the wing tube is a good place to start
Anthony Scott 2
I have a pair of wings & the joining tube in perfect condition. Available to anyone who can collect from Sandwich/Dover. Mine flew very well, electric powered, until the rx battery failed.
Glenn Stevenson
Anthony, where did you have the c of g? I.m sure mine is tail heavy Glenn
Glenn Stevenson
Dennis Sorry I didnt get back on the c of g, the distance from leading edge to tube center is 125mm, That is where I balanced the plane. I intend to push the c of g forward maybe to 100mm and try again. Glenn
Glenn Stevenson
Just wondered if anybody has any info on the CofG for the seagull turbo raven. Im going to try mine with more weight on the front and feel like its a do or die effort to get it to fly. Glenn
