Bill Reed
Don't use ebay much but just heard a new Point of purchase tax as come in. So if you buy from US or Japan say you pay tax when you buy. That's ok BUT does Ebay notify HMRC that I have paid OR do we get ripped off again and pay twice? I honestly can not see ebay and the government getting this running right. kevin b
There will only be one winner. We all want to buy it cheaper. That is why so many LMS have closed. The answer is. If you want to play the game, then you must study the rules carefully, so that you understand them. When you have done that, you will then be in a position to decide if you are saving money. If you cannot be bothered to spend the time in doing so, then caveat emptor, as they say. Edited By kevin b on 04/10/2019 21:15:
Frank Skilbeck
I think this is mainly a US thing, in the US each state sets it's own sales tax, so somebody in a high tax state buying from a low tax state is depriving the state of income. So in some states they have made Ebay treat all sales as a local sale and collect the sales tax, but this applies to items bought by residents of that state. So if you sold something to say somebody in Washington state then Ebay would add sales tax to the purchase price. I.e the tax applies to the point of purchase not point of sale. Erfolg
Strange thing is tax, those who impose them, believe it is their right to your money. If you travel to the next state, and purchase goods there, they often get upset that you have avoided their tax rate. When tax rates are so high that people reduce purchasing, again they get upset at the fall in revenue. Of course there is a solution, more tax. The EU knows the solution, harmonization of all taxes, and ensuing that once a tax rate is implemented , it cannot be reduced.
