Neil James
I have a couple of cheap servo testers which are very useful for the initial installation but I’m looking for one that displays the current draw of a servo which would be very useful to check for physical restrictions on a servo’s travel. I found a very sophisticated tester (ST8) from Toolkitrc.com but it doesn’t seem to be available in the U.K. Does anyone know of a suitable device? Steve Balaam
I don't know of a combined servo tester with current draw measurement but I use the following which I find indispensable. **LINK**
Gary Manuel
That's looks handy Steve. What I use is a regular ammeter - just cut the red lead in the middle of a regular short servo extension lead and clip the ammeter onto the two red ends. Neil James
Thanks for that, I realised that I've been searching the wrong thing and should be looking at ammeter or watt meter rather than servo tester. I've now found that Hangar 9 do a suitable meter but can't find one in the UK, it seems to have been discontinued, so I'll modify a lead to use my existing watt meter. Steve the link you provided worked this morning and was just what I was looking for but this evening it just brings up a discontinued page at TJD. Oh well. Thanks for the suggestions. Neil James
Thanks guys, I missed the ebay one but got one from Robotbirds. Sale price, too 👍
Gordon Tarling
Not cheap, but this one appears to cover all the bases.
Neil James
Thanks Gordon, that’s exactly what I was looking for. I’d seen that on the toolkitrc website but couldn’t find anyone stocking it, obviously I was a bit previous as it seems to be very new. I’ll treat myself to one of them for Christmas 😄
Steve Balaam
I looked at the ST8 very closely in my humble opinion it won't give you any more functionality than a standard cheap tester, it's got lots of bells and whistles but doesn't provide a current reading. I have however ordered one of their M8 chargers, it has a built in Servo Tester ( no current readout) and a variable output power supply as well. 2.4g Shaun
I use this to check servo current. It's a simple in line unit. https://hobbyking.com/en_us/hobbykingtm-compact-20a-watt-meter-and-servo-power-analyzer Update! Oops. It appears to have been discontinued. Neil James
Steve - the manual says it provides current readings for 4 channels at a time. While I take your point about a simple meter being sufficient to measure the current the gadget fan in me finds all this info on one display irresistible 🤗
Geoff S
I too was tempted by the Robotbirds/AGP system measurement device. Mine arrived this morning but I haven't tried it yet. The measurement designer still lurking in my past made it irresistable Geoff
Neil James
Mine arrived earlier today too and I’ve hooked it up to my ancient servo tester to try it out and I’m very impressed. I’ve already ordered another to use in flight testing! I did a brief video but can’t upload that here, I’ll try and post it somewhere I can link to.
