Bruce Collinson
David Ashby's review of the P 47 prompts me to ask, where's there a good supplier of custom wiring harnesses/looms, e.g. to connect three servos per wing via a single connector? I don't trust myself to diy via MaxLocs/Multiplex as the trial run of crimping pliers didn't go well. Any leads welcome. As it were. Engine Doctor
I don't know of any suppliers as virtually all installations are different and will need custom leads. Ask around you club as there is usually someone who can do these jobs . I have been using the battery balance extension leads for this purpose and it make assembly of model at the field so easy. Look for the heavy duty ex leads with silicone or heavier duty wires . No crimping just solder and heat shrink the joints.
Callsign Tarnish
Bruce, if you're local to Oxfordshire I'm happy to help.
eflightray
It might not be what you are looking for, but on one of my models with plug in wings it has three servo type connectors per wing. I used suitable length extension leads and mounted the ends on strips of thin ply using a hot glue gun. The picture may help. Ray. .
Bruce Collinson
Thanks all. Ray, a club mate has a broadly similar arrangement in a warbird. He sandwiches the plugs between servo tape. It works but as there are purpose made polarised systems about, that’s where I hope to end up. CT, Yorkshire! What had you in mind? ED, presumably you solder servo leads to the balance leads? Thought about that, to avoid the dreaded crimps. The thing is, David Ashby specifically refers to custom made harnesses and I’m certain I’ve seen an ad or a mention in the recent past for a UK supplier and that’s where I’m aiming. Grateful though. Chris Walby
Battery balance connectors seemed like a suitable solution a few years back and I used them on a couple of installations, however an experienced club member mentioned having issues with this type of connector. Since then I have experience a number of minor issues (poor and intermittent connections on various pins) to a point where I will no longer use them for any but lighting/non flight surface use. IMHO the quality varies too much and for flight controls one poor connection will probably the models last. PS 9 and 15 pin din connectors seem to work although very fiddly to solder and are low current rating.
