Messerschmitt M-19 (Civilian)

Thanks Maurice and Chris.

That would be a great week Chris, nothing but model building. laugh

Regarding the hatch, I had a think and came up with the following, hinged with covering at the top, once the top sheeting is on, and held by magnets.

I used scrap to make it, I didn't want to ruin the side sheeting that has the cockpit cut out in it. I will cut it down to fit later.

It will all be sanded to blend in later.

The top/side sheeting. I think I will add some square to the formers to help take the sheeting.

Thanks Robert wink Having fun changing up the designers plan LOL.

I have done a bit of what you could call planking to take the sheeting around the formers.

I have fired an Email off to George and Co at 4MAX for Motor and ESC specs, I have the recommended Lipos

(3s 4000Mah) . I am going to pull servos out of other models.

D.D.

The view today, it's getting deeper, I checked with a colleague and it looks like a day off Lads....YAY..smile d

The additional support for the skin.

Using a bit of scrap for the infill sheet over the hatch. I need a hole in the firewall for the motor wires to ESC and another for the throttle lead to Rx. Plus I marked up where stuff is going, cos sometimes I forget which plan I went with. crook

Ok, so some holes cut in the formers for wires etc.

I cut out the cowl just to see what it looked like.

The temporary former is in with the stringers, and the little bit of sheeting is on.

I made some stops for the hatch and the magnets are in, I used small washers as the catches.

I decide to attack the rudder and fin, the hardest part was cutting out the parts. It's all self jigging and as long as you don't rush it goes well. I used Thin C.A. for this, and Aliphatic for applying the skins. It all took about an hour.

D.D.

This fella showed up on the door step.

The Fin and rudder, they are located in the crutch with square spruce rods, built into the structure.

No provision is made for the supplied horn, I made a block from 3 pieces.. Easier than digging a slot out.

img_20210124_172110.jpg

Fin skins, which are also Thin. I pre-shaped the rudder leading edge and made the slots for the C.A. hinges.

At a bit of a standstill on the fuselage now until I get the ESC and motor, so I made a start on the Horizontal Stabiliser.

Loads of teeny tiny little bits to identify, and sort out. The one piece Elevator is made in two halves, Top and Bottom, So I had to figure out how to make two halves that would mate up afterwards. This was harder that you think, even tho in the end you produce two identical pieces over the plan. A brain teaser for a while, cos I was over thinking it..

The stab parts are made the same way but sheeted.

D.D.

Bits to sort.

I got the gear from 4Max this morning Chaps, so I have been soldering and measuring up for a spacer for the motor.

I gave George as much info as I could about the model and he did the rest.

A big thanks to 4Max from me.

I will open up the hole that I made for the ESC wires so that the ESC will fit thru a little, this will give me a bit more to grab when connecting the battery.

To get the spacer depth I put the cowl on, measure from the front to the fire wall, take the length of the motor + prop driver off. add 4mm for prop clearance and hey presto. Then laminate some ply and balsa to that depth.

I can now add the final sheeting to the fuselage sides.

Laminating a motor spacer/mount.

The power train. Battery is a 3s 4000MaH.

Prop is a 13 X 6 Wooden JXF. I put it on the balancer and it was spot on. Good props, IMHO.

I have had this radio, along side my DX7, since I dropped my JR DSX9. I have only flown one model on it, the Puddle Duck.

I have the Cessna120 on it and of course this one. Good radio, has car and boat modes too, but doesn't seem to have a big following that I can see anyway.

Good afternoon to you too Sir,

I put after market stick end thingies on as the originals were quite long compared to Spekky and JR.

The programming is very straight forward, for example, you want two ail servos, you tell channel 6 aux, which stick to look at (stick1 channel 1 = aileron).

Cheap as well, 9 ch rx £21.95    10 Ch with Sbus, and all sorts of other stuff I don't need LOL

I joined the Elevator last thing last night so I could plane it up this morning.

I think the David Plane is one of "the" most used tools in my workshop, apart from a sharp blade. I strengthened the rudder a bit at the weakest point.

Then sanded all the ends square on everything, with my next most used bit of kit, my sanding block (home made).

I made the block for the control arm in the elevator, it clashed with the tail skid so I had to move it over a bit.

D.D.

Fave tool, getting a new blade.

img_20210131_121208.jpg

Next most useful.

img_20210131_121254.jpg

All planed up.

Lovely lattice.

Reinforcing the top of the Rudder.

The tail skid. This will have a length of 2 mm Wire bent to shape and bonded on with twine.

Great progress, Dwain.

I never managed to handle a David plane properly. I always get it to 'bite' the wrong - to deep - way. Just a matter of poor skills probably...

Even if I'm 'out of combat' since a while, I'm still there trying to follow other's builds with interest.

Cheers & stay prudent

Chris
