Messerschmitt M-19 (Civilian)

Recommended Posts

Me and the Better half been out in the Garden today doing a few jobs, most enjoyable, I must say.

I got back to the Messerschmitt and planed up the leading edge that I had in fact glued on last night, after I had posted I was doing it today.

I also cut the hinge slots in the port wing and planed and sanded the wing tip.

I still have the horn slot to construct.

Then the covering starts. According to the build instructions, I have to stain some of the woodwork before covering, we will see.

D.D.

She is starting to look like an aeroplane.

I might stick with the Civilian pilot.

Thanks Chaps. ?

All the jobs done, and some covering.

Oratex clear or natural if you like. Very similar in operation to Solartex, but more money, so I have been making sure not to waste any. LOL

Just "Chillin" with a beer now, it's back to cycling to work from tomorrow, so I need to numb the pain. ??

D.D.

Making sure there is no waste.

Looking Good DD.

Like it being not run of the mill model. Looks like it may be a floater?

Yes Alan, the gumph says the following :-

D.D.

Flying the M19.

The M19 will lift of very very soon and does not need a lot of power , it will fly almost itself , steering is responsive and positive., landing more difficult, glide in for a slow landing  is hard to do as the M19 does not want to go down, when you slow it down it will begin to drift and then it will stall , , solution for this is that you trim the ailerons 9mm up for landing this will solve the problem landings will be easy then , take care as the very narrow landing gear is not  stable in turning.

The M19 does not like to much wind, it is also very light.

Have a good build and flight with the M19

So, It's the week end again and I can venture into the workshop.

The next job was to be the undercarriage, which is sprung, but I remembered I have to add the the top sheeting on the wing.

I had to add some pieces of balsa at the trailing edge to strengthen the area where the wing bolts go through, and then sand them to shape, and cut the holes for the Servo cables. I also made sure I cut the slots for the undercarriage in the bottom sheet, while I could still see the bearers.

D.D.

The hole cutting malarkey.

Still fiddling with wing fit, now I have the last bit of leading edge in and planed and sanded, along with the locating dowel.

I always leave the fixing of said dowel till after covering.

The Undercarriage slots.

The nice Dowel I made the one supplied was no where near long enough.

This also shows the fillet I added to fill that nasty gap above.

More progress on the M-19. The Cowl is fitted, I used the old masking tape trick to get the holes in the right place.

The Instructions say to paint the model brown then apply the cloth and dope.

I did a test on a spare bit of balsa, using Dark Earth warbird paint straight onto the balsa, then the oratex on top, works ok.

D.D.

Mark the hole in the tape.

... are you sure, DD ???

... he should be 'blond' with a corresponding moustache, at least...

... ? Gûnther, Heinz, Hermann or Dolf should be a lot more appropriate than 'Keith', I guess?

But, of course, it's your pilot and your Me M-19...

Cheers, enjoy but stay safe

Chris

LOL. It's the travel and tourism Dummy plane in one of the classrooms. I am giving it a bit of a do-over.

The interior is from a real aircraft, and the outer skin is ply on a framework of timber, it has a galley. I have had to fix the windows and the shades inside them too.

The students train in it.

Managed to get into the workshop today Chaps. YAY !!

Covered the bottom of the wing in Oratex Clear, added the servos, and painted the top of the wing with a wash of very thin Dark earth warbirds Paint.

The top will be covered in the recently acquired Lam film, to let the colour show thru, just like the resin and cloth on the original would have.

Dwain. Nice work. I’ve always liked the M19.

But I’ve been studying your workbench. I work in squalor, no space to get all the stuff tidy. So I look with envy at tidy workspaces.I eventually got the scissors?, stored in crisp boxes. But what are the pearl necklaces to their right?
