Dwain Dibley.
I have started on the wing now, and have just about sorted all the pieces out, so I know what they are and where they go. Just got to check the instructions to see the order they go in, as this is not apparent from the plan. D.D. The main spar ply piece under straightening training. Some parts figured out. The fuselage after primary sanding, still loads to do here, but I need covering first.

Dwain Dibley.
Thanks John, reminds me of a boats hull. The three piece centre brace is all glued up and drying as we speak. Dwain Dibley.
I have now added the Spruce reinforcement to the main Spar and constructed the undercarriage bearers from ply. These are normally chunky hardwood blocks. I have also missed out a balsa former, I will attempt to retro fit it somehow, as it does add support to the Rx mount. Waiting for glue to dry is almost as boring as watching paint dry. D.D. The component parts. Dry fit test. The main spar with spruce added. Close up. Dwain Dibley.
The centre section under construction, and under pressure. D.D. The odd bits of balsa are just spacers. Edited February 14, 2021 by Dwain Dibley.

Dwain Dibley.
Thanks Chris. The wing is certainly something different in the way it's constructed, to me anyway.. ? D.D.
Dwain Dibley.
I made a start on the wings today to find that one of the trailing edge spars, where the aileron hinges is mis-cut. So first a repair was needed. A bit naughty on a new kit but easily fixed with a strip of timber and my trusty plane. D.D. The mis-cut part. Cut from a bit of scrap. Under pressure. Planed. New slots. Preparing the bottom centre sheeting Edited February 20, 2021 by Dwain Dibley.
Dwain Dibley.
OK. Might have got a bit further, except for a call out at work. Hey Ho. All the bottom sheeting and trailing edge is laid out, and glued in, the rib cappings too. I don't normally do it this way but that's the instructions. I had to plane a little off the centre section main spar to make it flat to receive the bottom sheeting. This needs to go on before I proceed with the wing. I changed all the tubes in my workshop to daylight tubes this afternoon, it's a big improvement. D.D. The Aileron. The centre section and main spar assembly. My new lamps. Like being outdoors. Dwain Dibley.
Thanks John, Can you believe I paid £400 for 2 six cell batteries back in the day. I still have them and they still produce a good 7 minutes flight apiece. Had a Trex 600 nitro, enjoyed that but sold it on, got all the leckies down to the 250. McG 6969
Still following, Dwain. ? I must still have an Atom Compass 500 somewhere in the attic. To be honest I never really had a passion for helis but I inherited it in an early combo deal... Must find it back and sell it as a good reputation 'vintage' heli. Cheers & stay safe, young man Chris
Dwain Dibley.
Hi Chris, Glad you are still there. ? Helicopters used to be so popular, just like Drones are now, it will all come full circle. Take Care. D.D.
Dwain Dibley.
Bottom sheeting now glued to the centre section and under a bit of pressure from the usual batteries. Just needs trimming in the morning and then the ribbing can begin. Night night Lads. D.D.
Dwain Dibley.
Bottom sheeting all trimmed around the centre section and ready to go. I found the only way to go was to put the ribs in to see what lined up with what, as you cannot see the plan with the bottom sheeting on. However, if you squint closely there are very tiny lines to follow, when adding the outer ribs. It all went well, and I now have half a wing and one aileron finished, bar the top sheeting. A 3 mm shim is required for washout under the tip before sheeting. Also the servo has to be fitted, this will be unreachable without surgery later, so I am making the usual servo hatches. D.D. The bits. Cap strips cut from scrap. Main root ribs joined. Ribs in. I cut the Aileron free at this point. Servo in position. Hatches to make. When you have fitted a new blade, don't drop your knife and try to catch it. LOL
Dwain Dibley.
I have made one of the servo holders and hatches, one in the same really, and made the frame for it to sit in. All I have to do now is add the little triangle pieces to take the screws. The C.A. I am using seems to react with my usual plastic sheeting, weird. You can see it stuck to the airframe. Ah well, more sanding. LOL D.D.
Dwain Dibley.
Finished the servo hatch. D.D. Little triangles.
Dwain Dibley.
I ordered some Natural Oratex on Sunday night, 3 metres of it, it arrived this morning . Good Old Steve Webbs Models. Also, added a bit of reinforcing to the servo cover braces. D.D. Mmmmm. Smoooooth. Solid. I need to make a bearer for the Horn, in the aileron.
Dwain Dibley.
This morning I plucked up the courage to add the top sheeting to the wing, I taped the servo in place just in case. I also added the extension lead and the lead lock. I forgot to transcribe the shape onto the third piece to make life easier on the second wing. ? Anyway the application went as smoothly as it could, I added the 3mm of washout. The process was made slightly more awkward with the two spars sticking out the port side. I also dampened the sheet from the aileron out, where it was thinner. D.D. Don't forget to leave a bit of slack for access. 3 mm, plus I mustn't forget the capping strip on the last rib. Bits of scrap to stop things flapping about. Edited February 27, 2021 by Dwain Dibley.
Dwain Dibley.
Top Capping strips, false leading edge, leading edge and Tip sanded to a nice profile. Trailing edge all squared up with the aileron in place. D.D. Capping. 1.5 mm False leading edge glued using aliphatic. Aileron. And finally the leading edge glued on using Aliphatic.
Dwain Dibley.
Made the slot for the horn in the Aileron, and planed up the leading edge. The horn is not glued in until after covering. Planing one at a time makes it easier to handle. Next I will cover some things, this will keep them safe. D.D. Dwain Dibley.
A nice relaxing day today, went to a local garden centre and bought some things, took mothers day pressy to Mother as it's her Birthday next Tuesday, she is 85. ? Then a couple of hours in the workshop making the last skin and servo hatch. Final capping was added also. Tomorrow will be the leading edges, false and real, and perhaps the centre top sheeting.
