Tony Bennett
Well i have done something at last. i have used oleos for the suspension and altered how the trailing arms fit to the wing. i used a tube and will slide the ends of the arms into that, then the cross brace wires will hold it together. all soldered up and tested, works a treat. next job is to design and print the wheels and fit the printed oleo covers. Tony Bennett
Been playing at designing the wheel. this is the inside of the wheel. the hub will fix to the axle and the rest of the wheel will rotate round it. the outer half of the wheel. i need to work out how to fit a hidden collet to the axle. but i will plod on. Colin Leighfield
Excellent Tony. Will you use PLA and are you happy it will be strong enough?
Tony Bennett
i used PLA on a smaller wheel i tested on a small model, After slamming it into the ground a few times, all was well. But it is all experimental anyway. Tony B
Colin Leighfield
Interesting, I still haven’t got very far with my printer beyond doing some test pieces. I haven’t got to grips with the software. Like everything else, it’s still a lack of time because of trying to do too much, entirely my own fault,
Tony Bennett
now i wonder if i should fit the brake retaining arm. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. . . . . . . Oh why not. he he he Tony B
Tony Bennett
Cross bracing wires added to the u/c trailing arms. Then i printed the prototype brake drum for my wheels. these will be fixed to the axle and will be used to stop the oleos moving sideways. I hope to print the prototype wheel rim tomorrow and have a test fit. Tony B
Tony Bennett
Well i didn't get round to printing a wheel. ho hum. did the trailing arm covers instead, well i/2 of one anyway. trial fit of all the covers. The trailing arm covers will be wrapped in strips of silk and painted silver to try and match the full size. Tony B
Tony Bennett
starting to fit all the 3d printed parts to my u/c. the wheel hubs have come out the wrong size so i will have to reprint them later, but they worked well enough for testing purposes. I also wired up the esc and got the motor running. Tony B

Tony Bennett
Well i sanded down all the ridges with some wet and dry paper, then sprayed a few coats of primer filler on. then i wet and dried everything again before adding some paint. looks better, but with a bit more effort i expect you could get rid of all the printing ridges. Martyn K
Hi TonyIs the wheel solid or hollow? Martyn
Tony Bennett
wheel has 10% infill. so it is sort of semi hollow. Tony B
Martian
That looks super Tony , I have read that spraying with rustoleum acrylic then quickly followed by clear laquer smooth out the print lines
