Gavin D
Hello everyone this is my fist attempt at any thing like this so please excuse any annoyances I am in no way a computor person managed for 60 years without one. My question is how critical is the positioning of the arials on the 2.4ghz rx instalation [ Futaba] I look forward to any guidanceand comments
Tim Mackey
Hi Gav and welcome to “The Friendly Forum” - the very vast majority of flyers do return to the fold eventually! Things have moved on considerably of course, especially so with electric flight, and there are lots of threads in the forum on the subject. Its best to position the aerials so that they are at 90 degrees to each other as it were...so run one along the length of the fuselage side, and the other across its width. Also, try to avoid positioning them right behind large metal lumps like engines or motors. Gav.....If you have not already done so, could I ask you to have a read of these few guidelines we have listed to help you with using the forum. …. read the “pinned stickies” which are shown with a red “pin”. I know you have past experience but here’s a few other links which may be helpful. Perhaps this in particular may help And this. For a list of clubs in your area try this…. http://www.bmfa.org/clubs/index.html Once again, welcome on board and have fun! Timbo.
Garry Pollard
Hi Gav and welcome. Retirement is great as you are able to go out flying when all the others are out at work. Dont be afraid to ask anything here as you will always get a sensible answerWelcome once againRegardsGarry
David Ashby - Moderator
Hi Gav and welcome - Tim's advice is good but don't panic if you leave the aerial pointing straight ahead - I've done it absent mindedly (on Futaba) on many occassions and nothing bad has happened. Gavin D
Thanks for the welcome guys having read the instructions again[if all else fails] I think I saw it as a bigger problem than it is thanks again Gav
flytilbroke
RX, well worth getting them in as near to the advised positioning as possible. David I think means the TX aerial.
John Cole
My (slightly unusual) experience of the 2.4 GHz Tx aerial is as follows: I am right-handed and fly Mode 2 (Throttle left). I find hand-launching left-handed quite hard, so I launch right-handed. So that's what I did with my electric glider. But I sent it off a bit too-downhill. So I quickly grobbed the right-stick and yanked it backwards. Nothing happened! Yes folks, I was pulling back on the aerial!
Stephen Grigg
Hi gav remember the aerial on the transmitter should also be angled at its join depending on the angle you hold the transmitter itself.Timbo can explain this better.I dont no the angle I hold my transmitter ,im to busy watching the model
Tim Mackey
Optimum suggested angle for Futaba 2.4Ghz As the Spekky knuckle only "bends" in one direction, then to achieve similar radiation optimization...do it like this- as demonstarated by Mrs Timbo
John Cole
Timbo: for optimum radiation pattern with the module-equipped Futaba Tx should you not hold it the other way up (sticks underneath)?
Tim Mackey
Absolutely John
260 Flyer
"Timbo: for optimum radiation pattern with the module-equipped Futaba Tx should you not hold it the other way up (sticks underneath)?" At least it offers some protection from kamikaze pilots!

Tim Mackey
Ha ha.... perhaps if I had been using a gravity ridden fuby one when kev attacked me the other week, a different 6" stubby thing would have been broken off instead

Tim Mackey
Incidentally, anyone noticed that men using Spektrum 2.4Ghz seem somehow more virile than the droopy down pointing Futaba brigade
