Tim Mackey
Ok so maybe not ALL - but the 4 most common ones are here - dont know what happend to the other thread in which this little piccy was posted, but someone has asked for it again so I will "stick" it here. PS I dont care less what mode anyone flies on, they ll work fine - so just use whichever you feel most happy with - this is a not a debating thread - just an info thread. Questions directly connected with the modes as shown are fine, but if peeps start off on " Mode 1 is best - no its not mode 3 is" etc, then I shall just lock it Edited By Timbo - Moderator on 06/04/2009 10:25:

Tim Mackey
I think its fair to say that mode 1 and 2 are the most common in the UK.Generally speaking Mode 4 is a Left Handers version of mode 1 ........................ and Mode 3 is a Left Handers version of mode

David Ashby - Moderator
Ripmax told me a few months ago that 95% of the radios they sell are mode 2 but that figure drops to 90% when the high-end sets alone are taken into account. Tim Mackey
Interesting.... that's a huge majority of mode 2 then.

David Ashby - Moderator
Timbo - forum moderator wrote (see)Interesting.... that's a huge majority of mode 2 then.Yup, but there are some clubs and regions where mode 1 is more prevalent - did someone say the South West is a bigger mode 1 region? Steve Houghton
Presumably David's quoted figures from Ripmax also include mode 4 fliers who buy a mode 2 set, and mode 3 fliers who buy mode 1, since modes 3 and 4 are not 'sold' as such. Hence, it is possible (albeit unlikely) that 95% of fliers actually use mode 4 - we odd bods need to stick together!Steve
Tim Mackey
Steve...wouldnt that be mode 3 fliers buying the mode 2 sets, and mode 4'ers buying mode
Steve Houghton
Hi Timbo,Not according to your useful diagram . We 3/4 users usually buy sets with the throttle in the right place to avoid spring/ratchet swapping (which has not always been possible).Steve
Tim Mackey
But then you would need to ensure that mode changing in software was possible, cos your ailerons /rudders are wrong! I thought it was a left hand /right hand thing with you odd bods!

Steve Houghton
Phil,Micron already did that in the 1980s for the main pots and auxiliaries (not trims). My PL-7D had precisely that, and used three-pin plugs so that servo reversing was acheived merely by reversing the plug - simple! It's amazing how we managed before computer radios.Timbo, you're right about the need for mode changing software - as per your advice to me earlier this year when I bought a JR DSX-9. However, I still have one (nostalgic) foot in the past - see Micron comments above.Steve
Christian Hollyer
I'm "re-learner" - and a left-hander - and spent a few months this year trying to get to grips with Mode 2 since the overwhelming majority of those at my club are Mode 2ers. After a very dodgy landing, I decided to go Mode 3. My flying has come on in leaps and bounds (or, rather, my landings have come on in leaps and bounds!) and ismore intuitive for me. Phil Claridge
i started on mode two and i am left handed i have found no reason to change,by the way most two channel 27 sets had throttle left ihad loads of them for cars never saw any mode one
Phil Winks
All a little confusing surely if you've got a mode 2 set and plug your rudder servo into channel 2 then you've a mode 4 set up the usual way of controlling a 3 channel plane init ?????? Tim Mackey
Not so easy when you come to wanting delta / elevon wing setups Phil...and of course, the subtrims and trim buttons would be on the "wrong channels" too
Phil Winks
I can see that being a problem on more complecated tx's and with the more complex mixing available even on my humble futaba 6exap just came as a little suprise to discover I,m mixing mode 4 and 2 lol
Doug Ireland
It wasn't until a few years ago that I was aware of more than two modes! I thought Mode 1 was for gliders and Mode 2 for power. Just goes to show... So what mode is for "lefties"?
