geoff wise 1
Good evening , I'm not new to building, my problem is I've done my best. I've cut out the foam wing and sliced it up to achieve 8 ribs, but not usable. My cutting skills have deteriotated with age, should have stuck to parallel cord. Any help apreciated and as for the choice of model there is always one in the club who doesn't conform to normal people. Thanks again. Rich Griff
Bugs ear, different..... You going to make this model ? You going with sliding aileron "mixer" or is that going to be done via tx ? Interesting power source, Cox td, or is yours going to be electric ?
geoff wise 1
Yes, mixing with the tx, cox td 020. The model below is even stranger, it has no wing ribs as such, just 1/6th balsa bent over the spar. Polly may be right, we'll see. Geoff Great_All_American_Backyard_Canard_oz6149_article.pdf
FlyinFlynn
Closest I can get. They are scaled against the root profile so they are all the same profile. The tip profile I have is not exactly the same as the tip profile on the plan but getting eight perfectly interspaced ribs in both size and profile is beyond the means I have at my disposal. leccyflyer
TBH, with that model and given the much lighter weight of modern radio gear, I'd be inclined to just cut the wing as two panels and not faff about with lightening holes or cutting into separate ribs. It'll still turn out lighter than the original was with full size servos.
Simon Chaddock
FlyinFlynn You could try multiple "spars" like this. All sheet foam but the principle is the same. Actually only one spar as such the others are technically shear webs. All cut from the same 3mm sheet foam as the wing skins. Easy to do if you have a root and tip profile. Select where each "spar" will go, reduce for the skin thickness and it is just a straight taper between root and tip. In this case I had the root & tip wing section of the full size plane and just copied it. The ultimate true scale!
geoff wise 1
Wow, that was quick, thank you. I'm going with a built up wing, 1/16th balsa ribs, sheeted leading edge, standard old school. Would anybody mind if I build them and they are ok then can I send them to outerzone so you can help other folk. Will let you know the outcome in a couple of days. Must rush, am off to the printers, Geoff
geoff wise 1
Hi, sorry I haven't got your name, the templates are absolutely spot on. All ribs now cut out and the building boards been cleared off. I just have one question, as I see it, there is 2 ways to do it, build the wings the right way up and put 1/2 inch dihedral in or build the wing upside down and because of the taper in the wing ie the top of the wing is flat, this gives a taper on the bottom of the wing. Thanks, Geoff

geoff wise 1
Hi FlyinFlynn, been looking all over for you to say thank you. The guy I use for printing printed the ribs out for me, but as they are in red, he has no access to the same software that you use, so can't change the colour to black. The wing ribs profile is right as far as I am concerned, if I want to put wash in or out, I can do it on the next pair of ribs I make if I need to. I have built a wing using your templates, the trailing edge was spot on, so was the spacing. I put a 3 32nd spar top and bottom an inch and a quarter in for the leading edge sheeting. One thin line is very easy to concentrate on for cutting and you know it's right when there's no ink on the scrap bit or the rib. If you do do the modification to black, a nice touch would be to put a center line in. Hope I'm not being a pain and perhaps you may consider sending a copy to Outerzone. You don't happen to know the weight of the old 225 deak battery pack? Yes I am that old, in fact I used to sit on my Dad's transmitter to stop the wind from blowing it over with it's 9' aerial😂. Thanks, Geoff
FlyinFlynn
Well, changing the colour to black and adding a centre line is easy... however, someone else has already done it .https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=52469175&postcount=6 black Bugs Ear.pdf

geoff wise 1
Hi, do me a favour, put this on Outerzone for other people, he won't accept it from me. Thanks, Geoff. I'm busy making my second set of wings
