DLG programming Futaba T16sz & R3008sb receiver. Wing Camber etc.

I have the above equipment and a MiniDart 2 DLG. It has 4 servos, 2 Aileron Rudder and Elevator. All good so far and servos all do what they are supposed to do.

It's a very clever Transmitter, far cleverer than I am it turns out.

What I want to achieve is:

3 Flight conditions i.e Camber to work from a 3 position switch. ( think I know how to do this ) 

Flaperons, which will work on the throttle stick J3

Ailerons still to work with the flaps. (I realise I will have to set some servo limits. )

All of the above will require the aileron servos to move in the same as well as opposite directions  depending on what they doing.

 

Questions for starters are, which Wing type do you choose in Model Wing Type, 2 ailerons, 2 ailerons 1 Flap, 2 ailerons 2 flaps or something else?

 

How do you make the servos travel the same direction when being Flaps and giving Wing Camber and opposite directions when being ailerons? 

 

Do you achieve the droop in the trailing edge by using different trims for each Condition in the Camber Mode or is there a better way?

 

I have downloaded Mr. Holts excellent Kindle book but the penny has yet to drop. I think once I know which Wing Type to choose at the start I might be in with a shout.

Never had cause to do this sort of thing before so I'm feeling a bit dumb. Can't help but think there must be some Functions and Mapping of Servos in there somewhere.

It would be best if I can figure this out myself but I could really do with some help getting started.

Well I guess there's some cold comfort in that nobody else seems to know either. If / when I figure it out I will put something on here. Don't hold your breath as fiddling about time in in short supply.

Afraid I can't help with Futaba as I fly Jeti but for what it is worth on my Blaster the logic of the setup is:

 

Wing type is 2 aileron 1 Flap

 

Trims are independent in each flight mode

 

Flap camber is set in the trim menu for each flight mode.

 

Flaperon control is linked to throttle stick in landing mode, inhibited in the other modes. I do this by using function curves, setting a flat line to inhibit, a curve to activate.

I recently had an upgrade done to my glass slope soarer, with flaps added to make it much easier to land on difficult slopes. I was told that my Futaba 14SG was almost impossible to program to any satisfactory level to take advantage of all the conditions needed to fully utilise it. I was well advised to go for an FRSky X14 setup. This is because there are already pre-baked complex mixes (85 of them) ready to be installed exactly for this application. A well respected guy in this field called Mike Shellim has done all the work necessary to make this setup easy.

John, that actually helps a lot. 2Aileron 1 Flap makes sense and I think what Jeti call Flight Modes is the same as Conditions on Futaba. Setting up some more Conditions and trims looks like a way forward. Thanks.

 

Andy, the 16sz I have looks much easier to program than the 14sg and I have read the same about 14sg. Should be possible on my radio. I think my issue is down to the user rather than the system. I'll search for Mike Shellim and see what he has to say. If ai can understand the principle I'm sure it will translate.

  • I had a similar difficulty some time back. This post, from another forum, set me on the right track.

     

    Flight Conditions are extremely flexible and are a very powerful feature on current Futaba radios so it is good idea to gain a solid understanding of how they work on these radios. Conditions can alter many parameters on these radios ie. not just basic rates.

    While their documentation is lacklustre, IMO the way Futaba implement Conditions is one of the better ways carried out in any radio.

    To answer your question, it is very simple.

    When you enter the very first screen to create a programmable mix you will see a list of all your programmable mixes.

    To the right of each entry you will see a small yellow 'folder' icon. You can change this from 'Group' to 'Single'.

    Group means that the mix is effectively global and it applies across all conditions equally.

    Single means that the mix can have different settings for each individual condition.

     

    In my case, I use a Futaba T16SZ for power models, but a Radiomaster T16 for gliders.

    I mostly fly power (electric and IC). I had figured out how to configure modes/conditions on the radiomaster, but was struggling with the Futaba T16SZ. Then I read the post above. It really is as simple as described.

You can on my T18SZ so I assume you can also on the T16SZ as the software is basically the same. I've never actually done it but you can set up a fine tune of differential with any trim, stick or lever as the input.

That's really useful, thanks. It's starting to make more sense. As always the problem is what you think you know rather than what you don't.

I have gone back to basics with a piece of paper and a pencil to define what I am trying to achieve. Still can't get my head around how two aileron servos working in opposite directions can become two servos working in the same direction from a different stick. I guess a switch a condition and a trim change positive and negative. Appreciate the help. Onwards an (eventually) upwards!

That seems like a simple Flap/Aileron mix to me. I do that on all of my gliders (another Jeti user) and the flight modes (conditions in Futaba I believe) just allow you to vary the throws and trim/camber for each flight mode, but the mix still either works or can be cancelled per flight mode.

Most brands seem to have that basic functionality these days.
