Anthony Green
Hi, I have recently purchased a Top Gun Javelin 2, it its supplied with a metal engine mount & a two clamp bars, it tells you to use nut & bolt to clamp down the engine, so you don't actually put the screws in the engine holes. I have never seen this before, normally i just bolt the engine down with screws & nyloc nuts. Has anyone come across this? Its it ok/or should i purchased a different mount? Thanks Anthony
Doug Ireland
I had one of those supplied with a Ripmax 40 Trainer. Didn't like the look of it so didn't use it. Stick with a standard mount.

Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
I first saw one in an Irvine Wild Card I bought about 5 years ago......I didn't like the look of it either but used it anyway.....mainly to try & prove myself right when the engine vibrated loose.....I'm still waiting!!!! Use threadlok, tighten the bolts fairly tight & you'll be fine (& I never thought I'd hear myself say that!!!)
Doug Ireland
A lot of people swear by using self-tappers and have never had them fail. i prefer bolts and Ny-loks. Personal choice really!
Mark Lubbock
I have used this system on a VMAR Extra/Irvine .46 & the engine never worked loose-The system works well in my experience
Martin Harris - Moderator
Worked fine on my Javelin - follow the advice to use nylocs or threadlock.
winchweight
Used them with nylok nuts. No dramas at all.

Kevin Fairgrieve
I had one in my Ripmax 40 trainer sa well. Nocked the front one day as I was putting it in the car. Both sides of the mount broke where the rear bolts went through it. Not sure if I had a duff one with a stress fracture or something else. Rplaced with a nylon mount and 7 or so years later it still flies.
Peter 'Ivanna Crashalot' Savage
you could just use it as a bench test engine mount, it is what i used my one like that for, in the end it was too fiddly mounting the engine dead in between the lugs, it now sits proud at the front of my workmate!
