Graham Ashby 123
Just thought you might all like to know about the latest Nijhuis plan that's currently in the making for RCM&E. We were so delighted with the smaller .25-size Spit' that was published in the RCM&E Special a few months ago (copies still available, by the way!) that we managed to twist Tony's arm and get him to design a bigger one. Aye, and it looks as if it's going to be a cracker. If all goes well and it performs as expected, a good 61 four-stroke should do the trick - It's just over 60" span I believe. We're not counting our chickens until it's flown and been thoroughly tested, but Tony's quietly optimistic. Will keep you posted.
nasa_steve
hi graham well if tony's track record is anything to go by then it'll fly very well indeed and if he decides to kit it i might be tempted to part with some cash it'll be nice with an electric motor up front!!!regardsnasa(aka steve sales)
Graham Ashby 123
It's certainly light enough; looks very true to scale, too. My estimate, knowing how Tony works, is that it'll be ready for a test flight in just a few weeks.

Graham Ashby 123
Geoff, yes it is fitted with mechanical retracts, and oleo legs. Saw it last night and the old lad has surpassed himself... it's an absolute cracker. Got the wingspan slightly wrong, it's 63".
Chris Day
All you guys seem to be scratch builders, can anyone advise where I can get hold of the site address for the plans service
geoff dales
it might be an idea if rcme was able to supply or stear the builder to the correct place to buy the retracts. here in deepest lincolnshire there seems to be a great shortage of model shops that can supply specalist items without having to wait months for them
JohnnyB
Hi Everyone, Well its really great to actually see the new web-site up and running at last. For so long now its been really frustrating to have such a fantastic magazine in RCM&E - but no decent up to date website.Just one question for now - Will the site be expanded to include the extensive Plans range so that we'll be able to browse and order on-line? Well Done RCM&E.
Graham Ashby 123
Hello chaps. Chris, the plans service can be contacted on 01689 899200. As for the retracts Geoff, already sorted, we'll be providing the contact details alongside the article when it appears. Thanks for your comments John, yes plans will eventually be available to view and purchase on the site. Not yet sure how long that's going to take, though. JohnnyB
Thanks Graham - that was an unbelievably quick reply!.I've just been reading through my Feb issue of RCM&E, and particularly Alex Whittakers Weekenders article "on a bender" where he mentions the great little DU-BRO tube bender for "under a tenner". Looks like an indespensible piece of kit!! Hav'nt been able to locate any dealer stocking it on the internet, however. Anyone with any idea's? - just got to have one!!PS. Count me in as a life long member of The Alex Whittaker Fan Club - your articles are always First Class.

Mark Barnes
Well I'm just in the process of builing the Mk9 from the plans in the Special mag. It,s my first plan build for the past 20 years, so it's been a great experience to getting back into the building frame of mind. A great plan with good clear and helpfull instructions. I've decided to put in an old OS Max 40FP, it fits, nicely, I just hope its not going to be too overpowered. I am also going back to dope and tissue covering. re-kindle my old skills. Does any one know how I could fit an undercarriage to this model, as I think it would benefit from one.
John Sparkes
Hi Graham, nice to see the web site up and running. I missed the Special Mag. when it was issued, could you tell me how to get a copy, as I would like to build the Mk 9 Spit.
Allan Jordan
If the new website does allow me to checkout a plan online I for one will be delighted. Iv'e got my fingers crossed!
Jon Sales
Hi Guys,Just thought i'd rear my ugly head and see what this new websites about.Must say i'm impressed.Keep up the good work!I'll add some piccy's soon.Regards,Jon.
David Ashby - Moderator
Mark, an 40 size engine in the Spit would be a bit big, perhaps a 30 as a max. Tony's model bombed along on a 25. Retracts would add weight and the model is a bit small for them in truth although it wouldn't be impossible to fit.
Mark Barnes
Thanks David, I was thinking of putting possibly a 9" prop on my 40 engine, to try and reduce thrust, any other ideas welcome!!I was also thinking of fitting a fixed under carriage, I just think the model would suffer by landing on it's belly. David Ashby - Moderator
Mark, Graham and I have been flying the prototype on and off this winter and as it's a pretty light model it hasn't suffered any probs from belly landing. It looks better on low fly-bys without anything hanging down too :-)
Pete Brown
AS one of the first people to Hand launch the spit and see it in flight before it was published I can say it was easy to get under way and had plenty of power with the engine it had. Fitting a bigger one would over do it I think. Pete
Frank Hill
Hello. I am just finishing a Balsa USA Neiuport 11 (Bebe). I am now choosing a motor for it. I don't know if I want a Petrol or a nitro engine. I am leaning towards the petrol in particular the Fuji 23. Does anyone have any pro and cons . Thanks

Graham Ashby 123
It'd be a pity to fit fixed legs on the smaller Spit', it looks terrific without them and, as Pete says, it gets away very easily with a good hand-launch.
Mark Barnes
Thanks for the feedback guys, It sounds like I will be doing without the undercarriage then, after all i will be flying onto a grass patch. I'll also search e-bay for a smaller engine as well.
Barry Taylor
Hi all,Have got my T.N. spit up to painting stage. My intention was to use the humbrol paints that Tony suggests but was pretty hacked off that these are only available in titchy pots. Anyone know an alternative to save me having to buy numerous pots of each colour and what should I be using to fuel proof the paint and decals?
