  1. Kind of goes against the spirit of the hobby I would of thought.
  2. Paul, I'd second what Pete said, I've had an A9 for 4 years now and have found it good. Setting up anything but the basics is not intuitive and setting up flaperons takes a bit of fiddling about but it can be done. My first transmitter a DX6i took a bit of time to get right also and the chaps at the club are always in discussion about how to do this or that on their tranny's whether it be Futaba, Taranis or any other even basic cheapies. Searching the internet always brings up more negative comments than positives. The main reason I went with the A9 was a search showed very few problems if any with signal loss, something I experienced with the DX6i causing the loss of three aircraft in 2 years. 4 years on with A9 no problems that could be contributed to Hitec - only pilot error (stupidity) & battery failure. Stick with it Paul.
  3. Yep definitely 80% PERCENT finished already!!! Must be using self tapping woodscrews?
  4. No problems dealing with Philip there is quite a few who could learn from him.
  5. Yes (and in theory not necessary in practice) they should have a MFNZ Wings badge for the appropriate class.
  6. Looks like your all having a great weekend, pity I can't make it. Small problem of being 12000 miles away!!!
  7. Have to be in for this too, got to try this glue out since you all rave about it!
  8. The worry thing here is apart from driver being an obvious nutter, he has major anger managment issues. He has actually threatend to kill, if not actually capable of doing so he is probably capable of other forms of violence. Go to the police, make a statement and let them take it from there, who knows they may already have their eye on him, or do you want to wait until he bashes someone in a pub or his wife, girlfriend or child?

  10. Titebond premium 2, Zap 30 min epoxy, Great Planes Ca (made in the UK apparently).
  11. My TN Miles Monitor from an early? plan of his. Also my first build from a plan. Although it is yet to fly due to a rather strange problem with the retracts during taxi tests. The problem is 90% fixed, but it's not going to fly until they are totally reliable i.e. it might take off but a collapse on landing is quite on the cards.

  14. Me too please anything - better than the socks I usually. Merry Christmas from downunder.
  15. Sometimes but not in this case Phil, the HK ones are heavy laminated steel of the racheting type. there would be no advantage spending a heap more on ones that do the same job. Used them to make up approx 20 servo leads, not had any fail yet. Save the money for something else you want.
  16. CJS, have a look at HK SKU 347000001 available in UK warehouse for US $14.97, I have a pair of them they work much better than ones I paid 3x the price for. Also have a look at the tutorial by Andy Green on here, **LINK** Somewhere on the old website I think there was a video by Pete Lowe showing how, just can't find it at the mo, maybe someone else can find it.
  17. Is that why my copy arrives in a plain plastic wrapper Tony?
  18. Ernie, I wish you hadn't started this thread , I am feeling guilty now, only yesterday I looked around my shed only to see a partially built Fairey Fulmar an Etana undergoing a rebuild, two gliders waiting for repair and my latest temptation TN's P51-B on a shelf saying build me, build me. Realising I was actually going nowhere because I was doing a bit on this and a bit on that, I shelved the Fulmar in the rafters and decided to concentrate on the Etana. Will I ever get back to the Fulmar or should I start the P51, what about the gliders? I think I may have become addicted to balsa dust & sniffing aliphatic. Anyone out there know of cure?
  19. Hi Spikey, We have what you need it's a Sony ipod/iphone N50 Dream Machine. Clock radio with an ipod/iphone dock and remote remote control. Measures about 12 inches by 5 inches and 8 inches high. 2 reasonable size speakers, good sound. Cost here in NZ about NZ $110.00. Must be something the same or similar in the UK.
  20. Hi Martin, been following your build with interest, have the P51-B on my todo list and have received the full kit from Tony having found a cheap way to courier it here to NZ. Not starting from scratch on this one, got a similar project on the go at the mo. Actually has saved myself a bundle, Tony's frieght cost would have been over approx 250 pounds, got it here for approx 70 pounds. Even the wood pack saved was well under 1/2 what I would have had to pay if brought locally! Thanks to local boat building industry. Anyway been thinking of a simpler way to work the inner gear doors than using servos/sequencer, what are you thoughts on a simple spring to hold the door open and using the wheel to retract. Not exactly scale operation but possibly easier to manufacture? Kiwikanfli.
  21. Brilliant been thinking about going Turbine, wonder if the Club runway's long enough? Maybe if I went right to the end of the strip, chopped down the trees, extended the runway through 4 farmers paddocks, maybe just maybe?
  22. Would love to own a permagrit or two, but too expensive here in NZ, so brought 2 pieces of aluminium 500mm long, 1 50mm square, 1 right angle, cut to the length I wanted. Cut sandpaper to size, spray with Ados F2 glue and stick to bar. To replace sandpaper heat with a heat gun while scrapping off with single edge razor scrapper (comes off in one piece) clean with thinners and reapply new sand paper. Use them for nearly all my sanding, put different grades on the square bar, great when joining sheets to get a straight edge. The angle bar works well on right angles and widening/ straightening notches in wing ribs etc.
  23. Have experienced lack of power due to cold batteries this winter for the first time - voltage sagged on full power after take off - low battery warning went off on transmitter, then after 2-3 mins cruising on 1/2 throttle battery had warmed enough to deliver full power. Embarrasing though was my first attempt in a club aerobatic comp. It wasn't the coldest day I have flown either but we had a couple of -5 degree frosts on the previous nights and the batteries are stored in the garage so they must have been thorougly chilled hence low output. Batteries do seem to take a long time to warm up from this state. So I went and and brought a warming bag from HK works well you can set the temp up to 45' Even kept my meat pie warm for lunch. end result better performance on cold days and a hot lunch at the field!
