    I am tempted

One point that I don't see mentioned above is that the quality of the metal of a lot of those stepped reamers on offer is abysmal. If you can find a good one then all well and good but the ones I've seen have been of the worst kind of old Chinese dross that they used to be so infamous for.
  3. Posted by Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 11/09/2011 14:48:30:TBH I really don't understand why folks want to write posts in something other than the "pad" at the bottom of the thread. I always use that and let's face it I go in for some fairly lengthy posts and have no problem! It can be easy to lose a long reply if you don't use an external editor to write and save them prior to posting. Loss can be incurred by system error. It can also be caused by user error especially when swapping from tab to tab within a browser as is often the case when searching for instances to quote or for pictures and links. It becomes all to easy to "Back Page" and lose your entire text. Gnaaargh!! It also facilitates creating a draft response that one can save, check and update later before eventually posting. After a few infuriating losses I switched to compiling answers in WordPad for longer postings..
  4. Yes, same model that's why I posted it. The CPC site doesn't have a pic.  Shipping was a hefty £5.95 then there's VAT on top.I had other stuff I needed so the shipping cost was spread.  There are similar ones on eBay for around £16 posted but they're 90mm lenses not 100mm.  Of course if you've £30 odd to spare you can get the same lamp on a 1metre "Anglepoise" type arm and a table edge clamp. 5. CPC are doing these at a discounted deal at the moment £16. Usually go for £35-£40 Even Farnell are asking twice as much. 8093 lamp at CPC Mine turned up today, useful bit of kit.  for a pic see.8093 Lamp pic
  6. If you used those locking heads you'd have a ready made grub screw to hold the strut. Arsenal: Basses - 3x5Str, 2x6Str, 2x4Str, 1xUpright Guits - 1xStrat, 1xHeinz57, 1xEko1xBanjo  All I gotta do now is learn how to play 'em. 8^) Actually it may be time to move some of them on.I'll see if the next generation/s show any interest.
  7. Excellent, BEB's a C&W star in the making.  Myron - I guess. The good ones have a smooth kind of resistance. I just took the G-string off (ooh err!) my old Modulus bass and there was a fair bit of friction to the machine head, I think they're Schallers. After all, a smooth kind of resistance is what we're after on a machine head isn't it?
  8. We had rats in the roof too a while back. We're in a block of 10 houses terraced. Gawd knows where they got in. Not past our cats and the Rotty that's for sure Box traps and slow poison sorted them out. Early hours parts shopping, I have a PC next to the bed for those moments of inspiration and insomnia. ;^)Bought an oscilloscope at 02:30 this morning ... doesn't everybody?.  Re machine heads. You'll have to free them up somehow, they're usually pretty stiff, necessarily so.
  9. The 4mm +ve Male/-ve Female convention is fine unless you are going to use multiple batteries in an installation. Then there is a real danger of plugging one pack into another by mistake and shorting them both out. BIG spark!!!! Lots of magic smoke.
  10. I got fed up of waiting for The Durafly Spitfire to come back in stock.HK have had them on BacKorder since the beginning of March. They were briefly in stock in January as I recall. I'm going for the FMS Spitfire now instead after watching the comparison video by PARTYjohn69 on YT. In fact, as a bigger fan of the Hurricane over the Spitfire, I was waiting to hear about the new E-Flite Hurricane but that won't be released now till October 2011 apparently. So for me it'll probably be the FMS Spit next.
  11.  I don't know about telemetry being "the next big thing" it's here already.Clearly it's going to spread further through the hobby.  I've got the Quanum system running next to my Spektrum DX7. What I do like about the Quanum is the individual lipo cell voltage display.I haven't had a cell go bad in flight yet but if I do I hope to get prior warning via that multi cell monitoring. I'm surprised the other manufacturers haven't included that facility in their telemetry offerings.  A useful wrinkle for actually seeing the info from your telemetry system without taking your eyes off the model would be to organise some form of HUD. A variation on a theme from the world of FPV could do it . A pair of "Fat Shark" type sunglasses would do the trick except you'd be able to see through them rather than at a pair of mini screens. Monochrome LCDs would do it.I don't know how you'd manage the focal length though. I'm sure there'd be a way, the principle works for camera viewfinders, gunsights and range finders.  Regarding beeping indicators. I think there's a case for them being put out on earphones instead of sounders/speakers, beeps or voice alerts.  Ha ha ... I went away to think about this and Steve Houghton has beaten me to it.
  12. A heat gun should do it if all you want to do is strip the board for cannibalisation. Hang it off some wire and jiggle it when the solder shines, SMD components should should all fall off.
  13. I've found the info that this site gives has been reliable. hangtimes.com/rcbattery_faq  See Q. #3 - They reckon 3 x c/10 14/16 hour forming charges for a new NiMh. Once formed it's up to you whether you stick with long trickle charges or go for C/2 or even C rate peak detect charges.I stick to C/2 max, preferring to err on the side of caution. 14.  Restarted hobby with Spektrum DX7. Moved to Turnigy 9X/FrSky telemetry
  15. Reading about tapes for foam on the Sloping Off thread reminded me to mention.tapes2.xx.xx - I ordered a selection of reinforced tape, leccy tape and masking and duly waited.A couple of days later my debit card was refused on an Amazon order as my bank had detected suspicious card use and stopped it, quite how they figured it wasn't me using the card they didn't say. Turns out the fraudulent use was the same day I placed the tape order, the only first time traffic that day.  I waited a few days then enquired of the tape company how my order was getting on."Unable to fulfill order. Completely Out of stock. Awaiting a delivery date." What? All the items OOS? How likely is that? What kind of business holds no stock? No mention of the inability to process the funds. Suspicions aroused I looked over the paperwork. The order number was a really low figure, low one hundreds.Could this be a bogus operation? Now I don't have access to the information that the Card Fraud Services of my bank does so I can't prove anything. But something wasn't quite kosha about it all. Maybe the server had been hacked, maybe a dodgy employee. Who knows?  Suffice it to say that I've cancelled the order and will shop elsewhere. Lucky for me that the bank acted so quickly.New card arrived in a few days and I'm back to my favourite hobby of ordering modelling stuff online. I've heard that some people actually fly this stuff.
  16. One thing that surprises me about lead free solder is that it often contains Antimony, albeit in small quantities, as it is more toxic than Lead. I agree with removing lead from petrol and food can soldering but for electrical work good old lead/tin or lead/tin/silver, lead/tin/copper is so much easier to use.  That said, the manufacturing industries are going lead free in a big way now and it doesn't seem to have hurt them, or the products. I'm sure we'd get used to it if the ban were more completely enforced. It's change that we don't really like. Edited By Kozmyk on 01/07/2011 01:40:37
  17. It's even worse than that again.HobbyKing sells B grade and C grade to these sellers at knock down prices who then pass it off as A grade. Anthony Hand admitted as much himself in one of the blog videos.
  18. It's nothing new.A mate of mine got jumped on for tax from eBay trading 10 years ago.
  19. Posted by Doug Ireland on 24/06/2011 20:38:38: Myron, if it has only run for a couple of hours why did you take it apart in the first place?Silly question. Cos it was there of course ...
  20. Have you seen the ER9X tutorials by richardmrazec on YouTube?Lesson 4 includes conditional flight mode switching very similar to what you were after. ER9X Tutorial #4  I'm learning loads from these vids.
  21. Why would anybody in the UK believe that a notice from the IRS was genuine? The "IRS" is the US tax collection service. In the UK it's "HM Revenue & Customs" that comes after us for taxes. A long time ago it used to be called the "Inland Revenue" but the "S" on the end is an American thing.
  22. Mine runs OK except for when I change the weather. Then a "zipper" noise creeps into the sound, a few graphics delay artefacts occur, then it crashes to windows.Upon restart, everything works fine again.
  23. Velcro straps are standard fare in the RC heli world, from fastening Lipos to ESCs and Gyros. Here's a page full of them for you.Fast Lads - Hook & Loop straps  Regarding self adhesive velcro to stop slippage, I find that just a strip or two at one or each end is enough to stop slippage and not so much that a lot of force is required to undo.  Edited By Kozmyk on 17/06/2011 12:02:17
  24. Posted by Dorset flyer on 05/05/2011 00:31:04: Is that the one that is in 2 seperate tubes? one orange i think? If it is, i bought some from ebay then saw it in the pound shop but i would not use it again as i took a personal dislike to the very strong niff! was hearing disembodied voices i tell ya!! I then saw some for a pound in the twin injection tubes, worked great and didnt smell like a columbian drug dealers armpit! Do you think you should be broadcasting your rather intimate familiarity with these Colombians?
  25. +1 for the 4-Max crimpers.I did take me a couple of goes to get the technique right though. It's not a bad idea to label the jaws with a "This Side Up" in case you forget next time.I may even take my own advice on that one.  You know you've lined them up wrong when you cut the pin in half with the step.  I top up on terminals whenever I order from 4-Max or HobbyKing.
