  1. PS if you do buy one of the cheaper LED "grow lamps"- be really very careful- the first one I bought had a flat plate at the front with the LEDs stuck on it and two wires appearing from the base into the middle of the plate and soldered in place- transpires it was totally exposed 240v AC! Quite literally shocking!!!
  2. Chillis like heat and time. As advised refridgerating is helpful as is a soak in cold tea for ten minutes before planting. I personally don't do the kitchen paper trick as the seedlings sometimes get a shock when they hit soil and get sulky. I'm currently growing thirteen chillis under grow lamps 1 Bhut Jalokia (Worlds second hottest- currently harvesting red chillis of this one) 2 Carolina Reaper (Worlds hottest chiili currently)- both about 4 inches tall- about to pot them on 4 "Roquito" style plants - still small seedlings 3 Scotch bonnet plants (flowering)- taken from cuttings from last year's bush (which I'm also attempting to over-winter) 3 Serano chillis from Wahacha "guerilla chilli planting" seeds Only the Reaper and Bhuts took a tea soak to get them going. Growing chillis under grow lamps is very achievable- I used about 60W total LED power for the above plants. Most important thing with chillis grown indoors is you won't get chillis unless you artificially polinate- I tend to use a cotton bud for this. Otherwise (unless you get a rogue bea indoors) you'll just get lots of lovely flowers which immediately drop without chilli formation).
  3. Ideally any extinguisher will be in a stand which keeps it off the floor. I saw photos once of what happened to someone's garage roof when a water extinguisher sat on a damp concrete floor rusted through. Shot in the air like a rocket!!! Luckily no-one standing next to it at the time...
  4. Cyano and sodium bicarb makes a rock hard filler. Strong but a pain to sand. Very exothermic reaction also.
  5. Okay not quite so famous- Vernon Kaye used to fly at wormwood scrubs. Paul Daniels flew r/c. Harry Enfield bought a glow heli from the model shop in Camden Town but took it back later!
  6. I just layer up. For the hands I got an insulated tx mitt from banggood for about a tenner. I made a 20 watt pwm lipo powered heater to go in it but haven't used it yet.
  7. It's a bit strange! The final bid was 2/3rds of buying on direct from a shop so I can't imagine the seller was that upset at the final price (IE that the reason they didn't reply is because they changed their mind). Wierd though- I certainly would have expected a response.
  8. Great news (other than the hard landing!!!). I personally quite like the quirky silencer position- looks like a WW1 machine gun :D
  9. sorry- should have said- I was imagining the LED flasher relay being used- probably in a decased direct soldered situation....
  10. What frequency do automotive indicators flash at? You can get LED versions of those that will flash at any wattage any ones that will do 6v which I suspect is close enough to 5.5 to work....
  11. This appears to be the same motor https://www.robotbirds.co.uk/default/keda-motor-2213-20-1050kv-with-acc.html If you search 2213 1050kv you should find a few similar also.
  12. I would up the hysteria and say it's attacking the sun!!!!
  13. In completely unrelated news a majority share in Gatwick was today sold to a French company. Do you think anyone ringing in a drone sighting had a foreign dialling tone Not anti-French btw. But the timing is interesting. Everyone is saying it was environmentalists but they would surely "claim" it. Groups like Greenpeace try to do as big a soectacular as possible. Blackmail or financial shenanigans makes more sense to me........
  14. I fly relatively regularly on the Heath (light electric stuff only, nothing bigger than 1M wingspan) and there's another gent that lives next to the Heath who I've seen flying a DLG on a calm summers evening. I looked into the legality of flying / the byelaws etc before I started and couldn't find conclusive evidence. All I know is that the park constabulary have driven past and didn't bat an eyelid (whereas they're quite quick at stopping BBQs etc and people cycling). So the legal situation I think is unresolved but in practice a DLG is fine. I tend to fly at the end near the suburb in the field labelled "North Point" on the following map http://cdn.rowleygallery.co.uk/2014/02/hampstead-heath-map.jpg the field is actually named after a farmer but can't remember it's proper name!!!
  15. Agree with Peter. An Ebay dispute does no harm to the vendor if it is resolved and I think its not unreasonable to be concerned. Even if the vendor was away you would imagine they would be online....
  16. 24 hour delays will seem like "the good old days" early April this year!!!
  17. I'm just worried my tiny racing quadcopter will get snagged in the aftermath. There is a big difference between an autonomous drone that will fly for 20+ minutes and a lightweight racing quad that does 2... Doubt I'll keep below 250g with a geofencing add-on!
  18. Can I volunteer to be the first resident Gatwick drone hunter? I reckon an air-cannon powered fishing net with weights on attached to an FPV quad should do the trick. Presumably they can't just re-tune their airport radar to 2.4Ghz and look for the thing wizzing round on the runway?
  19. All flights out of Gatwick tonight cancelled due to a "drone" on the runway. What do you reckon it's a pigeon?
  20. I buy quite a lot of stuff from banggood. Stuff can arrive quickly if you choose the suitable shipping option, and if you select the tariff insurance they'll pay for any custom duties (though I suspect it doesn't include the courier's handling fees). My first order (some FPV goggles) never arrived but they sent out a new set without argument which arrived quickly. Their search engine isn't brilliant though- sometimes I have to exit and then "google banggood" what I'm looking for. For some of the more esoteric quadcopter stuff you either have to go to Banggood or Gearbest there aren't any UK importers... Some items it's a false economy as you can buy the same item for the same price from a UK vendor on Ebay. It's tempting to fall into the habit of assuming the Banggood price is the cheapest when it isn't always...
  21. It's always a shame when a shop closes- I studied up in Nottingham in the early 90s and liked it so much I stayed there a decade after. That being said I always found GeeDee models light on the r/c stuff as previously mentioned. I used to go there for fuel but even then got most of my stuff delivered. Until I got a car I used to cycle the 20 odd miles from Nottingham to the Long Eaton flying site to watch the flying, have a chat etc. Good times. I don't necessarily see a shop closing a harbinger of doom. One of my other hobbies is brewing craft beers- when I was at uni there were three local homebrew shops- all of them selling old malt, dubious hops and dry yeast. Now I can go online get amazing fresh products, a massive range of yeast- it's a quantum leap from those days gone past. The move online is just the way things are. Unfortunately in my experience the expert knowledge of shop staff in days gone by dwindled to such an extent it was hardly worth asking for "advice". The ultimate example of this is when I asked someone about stock availability for a product and was told "if you can't see it, it's not there". While that gave a possible solution to the question about Mr Schrodinger's cat, it didn't help me find out if they could get in the thing I required :D
  22. ps You can the weather is horrible- everyone's getting grumpy
  23. It's not libel if it's a statement of fact. You asked what to do and offered up saying nothing as an option., Don just pointed out quite correctly that if you were to do that it would legally be theft. It would be defamation if he suggested you were likely to do it or had done it before. Many people think that if, for example, the bank transfers the same amount into your account twice or a company mis-delivers something to your address you can keep it- neither are true, both are classified as theft. I suspect Don was trying to be helpful! Not sure how helpful it is to start accusing him of libel. Now the question is- is that in itself libellous :D I suspect HK might well say you can keep the lipo, I've always found their customer service very good.
  24. "Good" depends on capacity though. When you're at tiny whoop size batteries 70 ohm is good! At 400mah low teens is good. You also need to bear in mind the impact of multiple cells in parralel on voltage sag.
  25. I've also been very happy with Hobbyking to date- in fact just last night I made yet another order. When there is a problem I've found their online chat helpful and there always seem to be someone available to discuss the issue with. For the sake of complete transparency I should confirm that I had to use it last night- I ordered a few things on back order last spring which suddenly showed as "shipped" but never actually arrived, but they're refunding and I'd long since bought those items elsewhere anyway!!! Equally, most of the stuff nowadays is quad related and I use banggood for it. Do agree the HK search engine is useless. I knew exactly what I wanted last night and it still took me exiting the site and googling back in again e.g. "Hobbyking nanotech 370mah 2s" to find it!!! I hate to think how much their bad search engine is costing them- not sure everyone would be as stubborn as me. Then again can't complain about the prices- got the above batteries for £2.50 each (they're actually really good for microquads- internal resistance is about 12-14) and I got some 12v 2/3s chargers for I think about 10p more!!!
