  1. Posted by Martin McIntosh on 24/07/2017 20:02:21: I strongly disagree that the guy was a reckless idiot, he was merely flying down the channel. OK, he should not have been so close to the bridge but I doubt if any nuclear secrets could have been revealed by his action. Fair enough, but that wasn't the point I was trying to make!
  2. Regardless of what you think defines a UAV, drone etc, you need to remember that the first prosecution of an idiot flying FPV recklessly was a fixed wing flyer who decided to fly over the BAe nuclear sub facility at Barrow! Link with video
  3. One thing that is mentioned repeatedly in the documents is how to reduce the risk from drones, yet I haven't seen any evidence of a risk assessment; anyone who's involved in engineering, construction, H&S, etc. knows that the first thing you do when looking at risks is to carry out a hazard analysis follwed by a risk assessment, and only then start to create a risk mitigation plan
  4. A Thomson 757 lost comms on Monday near Rennes and was escorted by a pair of Mirages, but I haven't seen any reports of a similar incident yesterday. Report here
  5. RC Model Store is definitely a legitimate business; he's been at the Old Warden shows for the last few meetings and he does have a good range of stock. The website is a bit 'unfinished' at the moment, hopefully he'll sort that out before too long. Note the somewhat odd opening hours (listed on the site) before you try calling!
  6. I've had a look at one of my engines and it's identical to that, so I believe it's an SPE (although mine does have SPE cast into the cylinder)
  7. Sally B flew over us whilst we were in St Neots this afternoon.
  8. Just recently, viewing Photobucket images on their site became a tedious game of closing pop up ads and those annoying pop over messages; clealry they want your money, either via advertising or directly out of your wallet! I moderate a popular car forum and this change has just wrecked the images in 10s of thousands of posts, albums and profiles
  9. Posted by Martin McIntosh on 23/06/2017 21:32:25: OS have to use a coating other than chrome because under Japanese law they cannot stock the quantity of chrome needed for their production. What law prevents them from holding stocks of chromium?
  10. His listings are incredibly random, as his prices appear to be; according to ebay, he has over 1/4 million items listed at the moment!
  11. Nasty, hope the pilot's OK Looks like he wasn't holding up elevator until the prop hit the ground, very strange. The cameraman had a very close call, that piece of prop that broke off must have only been a couple of feet from his head and it was moving very fast!
  12. Thanks for that video Dom; I think it's fair to say there was quite a lot of emotion amongst club members and Ken's family during the Ken Bones Yak display team flight. He will be sorely missed. RIP Ken
  13. That's possible, he was there with his 'podium van', but he wasn't commentating, just visiting and saying hello and watching the flying (and offering to do a spot of shopping!)
  14. Posted by Percy Verance on 03/06/2017 12:23:10: I hate inline fuel filters with a passion. Far better to filter the fuel as it goes into the tank. Doing it that way removes a possible variable and potential source of problems ie: blockages and air leaks....... I've never understood that argument TBH; I filter the fuel before it goes into the tank, but I also use inline filters; the way I see it is that the carb jet is much more likely to block up than a filter would if there's crud in the fuel.
  15. It's the largest by wingspan, but I think the A380 has it beaten on weight. It's interesting that the prototype has 2 cockpits, compared to the CGI that shows only 1 cockpit with the other fuselage being windowless.
  16. Posted by Geoff Jackson on 03/06/2017 23:37:42: Heres hoping Weston has all the usual mix and bonhomie although I shall miss Mr Bishops commentary! Is DB not going to be there? He was at Old Warden for the 1st ModelAir day this year and he seemed to be back to his old self (I promise I won't mention the caravan incident - Oh damn, I just did!)
  17. If you're not going to LM tomorrow, why not come along to the Scale Day at NLMFC in Baldock. It's usually a pretty busy day and there will be the club's own catering facilities doing a barbeque, teas and coffees at very reasonable prices!
  18. That's pretty impressive, I wonder how much fuel he burnt running the afterburners for that long.
  19. I hope she's not too badly damaged to fly again; the Sea Vixen is my favourite classic jet, it would be a shame not to see her flying again
  20. For future reference, the tracking number for domestic shipments is the 1st 11 digits of the 20 digit number; this isn't stated anywhere on the card or on any FedEx web page that I can find. This morning I had the pleasure to be on hold for another 15 minutes before being cut off again; I found that the only number that helped was the domestic support number found from their UK website (0345 600 0068), this was answered within 30 seconds and the helpful chap advised me about the 11 digit tracking number then rescheduled my delivery. Don't bother calling any of the numbers on the card unless you like listening to the hold music!
  21. I am expecting a delivery, but the sender didn't send tracking details
  22. I hadn't tried it before, but just gave it a go with the same result
  23. I had a card put through the door by Fedex today, rather annoyingly it states it was the final delivery attempt (it was also the first attempt); there's a very long (20 digit) tracking number that isn't recognised on their web site, plus a short number of 8 digits which also isn't recognised. Does anyone know what a valid Fedex tracking number should look like? I did ring them and they transferred me to a UK support number who left me on hold for 15 minutes before hanging up!
