  1. Excellent service from Gliders Distribution - ordered a number of small items Thurs about noon, they arrived following day first thing. I know lots of other retailers can match this but what was exceptional was orders over £50 postage is free. Well done Gliders and Post Office.
  2. Plasterboard - B&Q sell quarter sheets for less than a fiver. I use 9mm MDF on my bench to keep it flat.
  3. A club I was a member of had a similar problem and for the best part of 3 years the mature gentleman student flier made no progress two different instructors (with the patience a saint) would not give up on him. The problem for him appeared to be not knowing left from right and not realizing that he had turned the wrong way. One solution which worked to some degree was to get him to steer a radio controlled car around in a typical racetrack circuit. The chap then went out and bought a 'SAFE' enabled model and flew it under instruction in the beginner mode with enough success to take-off and land. His instructors are sure that he will not progress to flying solo, but are willing to stand with him to allow him to fly. As far as I know this is still happening.
  4. If it floats your boat go for it - no sin enjoying yourself as long as its safe and legal.
  5. Looked at a US supplier even with poor exchange rate and I can get cowel and spinner from them for just over £16.
  6. Needed a new cowel and spinner for my Parkzone Sports Cub. Shocked to find them quotes by a well known supplier as cowel £17.04 and spinner £10.44. I know the manufacturer need to make it and retailers have overheads, both need to make a profit but £27.48 for £1 worth if plastic!! Makes me think we are being ripped-off.
  7. Hi brokenenglish the BMFA have a handbook on their website relating to batteries. There is a section that specifically deals with lipo disposal.
  8. Ordered a Morane-Saulnier plan from them on Thursday last - arrived yesterday.
  9. It was without a doubt a great achievement - as an RAF apprentice in 1969 we were permitted to stay up beyond 'lights out' to watch on our communal TV. One small point according to the film 'First men In The Moon' We (the Brits) got there first Lionel Jeffries claiming it for Queen Victoria and Britain.
  10. The BAC Jaguar was affected by the rotation of the engines, the effect was to bend the fuselage slightly (commonly known as 'spine bending'. The twist induced a yaw moment which could be trimmed out. Rudders were mechanically set away from neutral by technicians to the trim position set by the pilot when flying straight and level at 500kts the electrical trim system was then set to neutral whilst the rudder remained off-set.
  11. IanR try Denbigh Army Supplies www.denbigharmysupplies.co.uk/ they have a good selection of different sizes of ammo boxes and the prices are OK. Their service is excellent. My boxes from them were in almost new condition. Other club members have also used Denbigh with equally good results. As has previously been said it is best to remove some of the rubber seal from the lid., do not take the seal from the side where the catch is as the boxes may not close/lock properly. I removed the seal from the long sides and rear hinge which allows sufficient venting.
  12. Posted by Donald Fry on 30/04/2017 20:45:11: I reckon that most multi rotor owners know there are laws. Unless illiterate, non news reading, non television reading hermits. Think I'm a hermit - don't read newspapers or watch televised news .
  13. April 1917 became known to the RFC as 'Bloody April'. By the end of the month 316 aviators were either killed or missing. This number appears insignificant compared to the slaughter on the ground. However these losses amounted to 35% of the total RFC aircrew engaged on the Western Front. Hugh Trenchard was to complain that he was fighting the battle with the same aircraft as he had fought in 1916, and that the RFC was hopelessly outclassed. Fortunately new aircraft types were on the horizon and would turn the advantage back to the RFC.
  14. Never had a problem with Deans, but after a couple of events due to EC3 connectors failing to make firm contact I switched everything over to XT60's. As said previously easy to connect/disconnect and a doddle to solder.
  15. I rarely read the BMFA News in its entirety much of it is uninteresting, however I appreciate that others find it riveting. My copy is already off to be recycled the only bit of interest to me being the Achievement Scheme article. Perhaps it is time for the BMFA to provide a way of opting out of the printed copy and opt into an electronic version, this could be done on membership renewal. It would reduce print and postage costs and those member who wish to have a printed copy would still be informed.
  16. Agree with Bouncebounce crunch this is a practice I also use. With the rising popularity of electric models and the fact that they are armed when the battery if fitted and connected it is safer to take the Tx when retrieving a model, as you remain in full control. Also when retrieving a model from the strip other fliers are aware of the retrieval and do not overfly until 'clear' is called.
  17. Andy G - quite agree with you, I too enjoy reading the build article and looking at the plans. Nice to know that the RCME are maintaining this aspect of the mag. Also agree the new style Model World mag is a bit of a disappointment.
  18. Used them a few times and I can concur the service is good. Have one Apex motor fitted into an off the plan built model. I used their data sheet to determine which motor was suitable for it, and so far it has performed well. I would definitely purchase another. On the negative side they don't appear to holding much stock - the mid range 9 to 12.5 gram k power micro servos have been out of stock for over a month.
  19. Managed 42 didn't use hints - but mainly by a process of elimination of the alternative answers - without alternative answers doubt if I would have managed to get 10 correct.
  20. My first charger was (and still is) an RC6 Touch, I was that happy with it that I got another unfortunately it was faulty and was returned to Overlander who promptly sent me a new replacement which was also faulty and was returned. Having had one good one and two duds I asked them for the RC6 RSV - so far its been very reliable.
  21. The world of work is driven by process and worthless work instructions- for example people in call centres reading from script. Its a shear delight to be able to tinker and fettle dodgy models/plans/etc., and be able to break free of the audit police and process. Are we bodgers no we are innovators.
  22. Are there any suggestions on applying self adhesive trim/roundels/etc to Solatex. I have read that Solartex Trim does not adhere properly.
  23. Well said Geoff full agree with your post - costs me £9 month for club and BMFA - money well spent in my opinion.
  24. If your Apprentice is the RTF - you may need to try binding again. My Apprentice would on power up go through a self check and all the flying controls move slightly with a tone at the end of the check. One thing with powering up is it should be stationary of the ground for the gyro to set itself. The throttle should be full off during this set up. With regard to the missing pin on the clevis, they are only plastic and it sounds as if yours has been damaged. Hope this has been some help.
  25. Merry Christmas RCM&E team, not forgetting to wish you a prosperous and successful New Year for 2017.
