  1. My micro bee get's well and truly mobbed by the swallows who live on the farm and the local peregrine is none to keen on my zaggi being in his airspace, other types don't seem to care one way or other.
  2. It seems strange how people at that time who had done their best for their country at a time of great need were then pushed aside,as well as Watson Watt one can think of Hugh Dowding, Kieth Park [commander 11 group] Frank Whittle, Arthur Harris and Tommy Flowers [computers]. In place of the B of B section it may have been better [more interesting] to have covered early operational problems. Unlike later radar which sweeps around the early setup looked every where all of the time, this resulted in what became known as the battle of Barking creek when as a result of reflections in the radar some RAF aircraft were mistaken for the enemy and more scrambled and so on until there many fighters airborne on the hunt and as a result of poor communications two Hurricanes[first RAF losses] were shot down by Spitfires as they raced around looking for an enemy who was not there. The fix was to blank out the overland view and rely on the Royal Observer Corps once the enemy had crossed the coast and the introduction of IFF identification friend or foe unit in RAF aircraft.Lessons were learned.
  3. Saw one of those American gun programs the other day, when they fitted an FPV quadcopter with a 9mm pistol and were able to hit targets from 100 feet !!!
  4. My club has a no flying on site [military site, large ex in progress] from 25 August to 6 September.
  5. A flying wing to be stable needs reflex or sweep back, most have a bit of both.I fly my Zaggi without fins [ just like it that way] and it soar's just fine although it can get a wobble on some times.A straight wing with no reflex would be unflyable,a full delta does not need any reflex. For more info look up Northrop flying wing's
  6. Open menu and jog to parameter, press to enter, jog left to page 3 and jog to buz-tone, + or - change. Mine set at 91 any more is out of my hearing range. No volume adjustment as such but this may help, cheers.
  7. Run mine with a 14x10 in SNJ [ US NAVY texan] only inch clearance when fuzz level. If you look at full size WW1 props they tend to be quite large for the aircraft they are fitted on and have a fearsome pitch.
  8. When starting mine I stand behind the motor feet in front of tailplane.
  9. If not been run for some time it's going to be stiff, put some fresh fuel in it and turn over with starter [no glow] and it will free up and you should feel less of the gears. You need an adapter for the starter and revers the polarity [on the batt] for motor to turn in the right direction. Follow cooling instructions it's important. Have run one in my Seagull SNJ for some years and like it because it's different and love the noise, very radial engine like sound.
  10. JB WELD chemical metal, two part like epoxy.Fill hole then drill and tap to original size. Can be had in most hardwear stores.
  11. I still fly some aircraft on 35 meg and notice other flyers looking at my ribbon when about to take off or land.
  12. As Jon Harper touched on in his post most early aircraft have flight characteristics quite different from modern types. The rudder is often the primary control in a bank/turn with wing warp/ aileron secondary, control surfaces can be large with coarse movements to be effective at low air speed's. Engine power to weight ratio was low and to cope wings are also large or there were many of them. This then leads to a lot of drag that very much limits the speed of such aircraft, put in more power and it won't go much faster but will climb like the proverbial homesick angel and those large control can get a bit touchy.
  13. A mother who rings the police to complain that one's boat is tied to the harbour wall preventing her children from jumping into the water there [toumbstoning] and the policeman who comes and ask's if one's boat should be there!!!
  14. Saw the Vulcan perform at RAF Brawdy open day in it's last year of service and boy did they pull out all the stops, left hart's a pounding and all the car alarms in the car park going off.
  15. The spin rate may just be a trait of the Travel Air,perhaps someone else who has one can comment?
  16. Started with Futaba M series in late 70's[still works] only change was Fleet [still useing some RX's and servos] and recently gone 2.4 with a T8j. Today you get lot of TX for your bucks.Something of a Futaba TX museum in my cupboard.
  17. Flair closed loop control compensator is a handy device, sort of spring loaded wheel that keeps tension on the lines.Seen some on flebay.
  18. Hello Frank, look up DB sport and scale for some good builders models.cheers John.
  19. Having helped run this event since 95 it is sad to come to an end, all good things ect and Reg "bless him" is no spring chicken. Much fun had by many and it was all ways good to meet other modelers who came from far and wide to support us. Still amazed my old ARC Jupiter survived so many finale "bombing"missions!
  20. It may be debris, the remains of an element of a previous plug floating about the motor. It only takes very small bit's to contaminate the new plug and trigger another blow.
  21. Posted by Neil Powell on 16/07/2014 15:41:08: Redtails. I thought it was really naff. Looking forward to the remake of the Dambusters though! I don't know if I am, there is no doubt the special effects can be improve a lot and we can have it in colour but there is no way to better the performance of Richard Todd and Michael Redgrave as Gibson and Wallis. I think the reason actors of that time gave good performance of military types was because they to had also served.
  22. None for me,two both about 30mls on the road but little chance of traffic problems.
  23. Look's like a classic case of aileron reversal effect at the end of the flight, down aileron drag overcoming the normal result of putting in right ail,but agree with Scott should not have got that far in the first place. Had an interesting moment at our club show some years ago when a very large Catalina had engine problems and had to land in a limited space,no one hurt but modelers preparing for the next slot had to scatter and some planes were squashed. Put in a size limit after that. There are old pilots and there are are bold pilots but there are NO old bold pilots!
  24. The O ring on the carb may need replacement. If you have an in line filter it may be a bit blocked
