Humbrol aerosols! the heat must have gone to your head Richard, what is wrong with the tester pots from B&Q which you advise people to use. And don't say your spray equipment is in Essex as you can pick up a compressor at the local scrapyard, if your car does not have a spare wheel.

I have a 60" span Warbirds Replicas Hurricane finished with Guild mat enamel fuel proof paint from aerosols, not cheap but it seems to be OK. It has had a lot of flights now with a Saito 82B up front, quite a messy engine compared to a Laser but the paint work has not suffered. I waited about a month after painting before running the engine, the fuel is 5% nitro which I use all the time so I can't comment on higher nitro content fuels. My next project a Hawker Seafury has a petrol engine and I tried some petrol on a the guild paint and it was OK so I have used it on the Seafury, the only problem is a limited range of colours. I use rattle can car undercoat.

You could put spare cowl screws in it, as it is about on the C of G but you would not have to glue the cap on.

Stick the circle of plastic card over it that you have just cut out.

Spring is here again - who's been flying?
Eric Robson replied to GrumpyGnome's topic in Flying Field Reports and Chat
Flying my favourite model, I also flew my foamboard Mosquito but the photographer left early, -
Hi Daren, I sand the maker foam paper with 400 grit wet or dry to get rid of the waxy surface and use paint testers from B&Q straight on to the surface. I also wrap the leading edge with printer paper or similar back about 1" using thinned PVA, this stops the covering lifting off the foam, if it is a straight taper wing like the Me110 I go back to a panel line on the wing.

Looking forward to some photos in the air with the wheels retracted, well done Graham, Foamboard works South. South West factory seems to be on go slow. -
Managed to get these stills off a video from last week, it is still going strong done its flight No.90 today. It will be flying tomorrow for the BMFA 100 weather permitting.

Well done Graham, who needs balsa when you can make something like that for a fraction of the price. My foamboard and maker foam BF110 has had 85 flights now and I am flying it on Sunday for the BMFA 100, if it had not been so windy this week it would have been its 100 flight. Not enough batteries to do 14 flights tomorrow. -

Wings and Wheels 25th and 26th June

Wings & wheels Saturday, Cosford LMA following Saturday. Pleased I have an economical car, a lot of miles from the North East. -
I think Jetworks plans are for foam builds. could be wrong.
-
Red hot chilli peppers and beans would make it run fast. don't think the cuttlefish would like an esc on it's back.
-
Not many windings on that motor Richard, are you going to put webs on the wing spars? I think it would be wise from the centre to the nacelles at least.
-
Thanks Stuart, working with foam board is quite easy and a quick way of building, I started with a Flite Test P38 kit along with Richard Wills and Glynn Lander. Richard had some cowls and some canopies for the P 38 and the object was to see if we could make it a little better with the ABS cowls and clear canopies. With plenty of time on my hands mine was the first finished and I wondered what was going to happen one the test flight as it seemed very fragile and I had fitted more powerful motors. no cause for alarm it flew with a gentle launch straight and climbed away without effort. After a few flights It was performing loops and rolls and from there it has had many flights. The problem with the Maker foam is the paper covering detaches easily and looks messy, so my next project was a ME 110, this was made from foam board and Maker foam with the fuselage sheeted with 1/8" depron. The nacelles were made from foam insulation, it has had over 80 flights and is still good. I use UHU Por glue as well as hot melt, the Uhu is better for long runs such as wing spars as when I use the hot melt on a long run it is going off before I get to the end . If you have any questions I will be happy to help if I can. The Mosquito now has the spinners on and looks a lot better I tried to upload a video but the file is too big.

OK, for slim electric damaged props!
-
A part built B. Taylor Gladiator in the first picture? Great job on the Chipmunk. I built the Airsail one and put all the rivet detail on when I first retired, it won the scale trophy at our club. I am currently flying a Seagull Chippy 80" span, fly's great but only semi scale.

Why not the home for criminally insane flyers and damaged props?

I think Richard's version is a good size, and as a testament to foam board my Bf 110 has now had over 80 flights and is still good. I prefer it to my Mosquito as it is one piece, fits in the car easily and only takes 1 -3s 3000 whereas the Mosquito takes two . It is well liked by all our club members as it sits right in the air and is totally convincing, although one member seeing it for the first time yesterday, (he arrived when it was in flight and at the time was high up and a silhouette flying slowly ) thought it was a Lockheed Constellation, must have double vision? I had thought of making another Mosquito the same size as Richard's but as it is flying weather it won't be for a while and if he is going to kit it it will be worth waiting for. I spent this afternoon flying my Warbirds Replicas Hurricane, built as supplied and it fly's great on a Saito 82b but it would be better with a Laser as the Saito is a lot messier than the Laser in my Seagull Chipmunk which I flew this morning.
