  1. As I have said many times, I have learned much from making mistakes that I keep making them so I san learn more.
  2. Hi Graham, the whole tail end is almost identical to the first Harvard's that had a stringered fuselage with fabric covering. Good luck with the undercarriage although the hole where the main leg comes out would be a good place for finger grips for hand launching.
  3. Lucky you, I bought 2 new Saito engines last year and did not get any spanners with them, mind you the boxes were in better condition.?
  4. I'm looking forward to some decent weather, not much about in the N.E. Simon, following with interest in you models, I have built a lot in Depron but since it is hard to come by now I am going to try foam board when the building season comes.
  5. I built the CAP Mosquito from the plan many years ago but only used the plan as a guide. I built the fuselage from the plan but made the wing with wash out and made the spars( which are also the formers for the nacelles) from a sandwich of 1/16" ply and balsa instead of the 1/4" ply . A lot of the block balsa was substituted for formers and sheet, I also selected the lightest balsa I could find for the tail feathers, The 1/2" sq beech engine mounts are over a foot long each and there is 4 of them They were replaced by 1/8" liteply in slots and normal engine mounts used, it was powered by 2 OS 25 fsr motors and flew well it was about 7.5 lb in weight. You may have a chance if you can keep the weight down. Eric r.
  6. I would call it market research.
  7. I use the same system with 1/4" ply plates and nuts and washers instead of stand offs on 5mm threaded rod. Side and down thrust can then be set up as needed.
  8. A Hurricane for me and a 110 and if I life long enough, a B17 Mosquito and a Beaufighter. And an endorsement to the durability of Richards designs I badly damaged the Spitfire, my fault and the JU88 not my fault and both were repaired and flying again in a very short time.
  9. Don't know what Richard has in mind but put me down for one.
  10. Hi Paul, I have a Seagull models Chipmunk 80" span that has the same flap hinges, they are awful. i used very small tie wraps around mine to stop them spreading, I found the tie wraps slid away from the pivots in flight and one popped out so I put a drop of superglue on the tie wrap and to date they have stayed in place.
  11. Hi Ron, good progress, I like to keep it simple the tail wheel is not to prominent , mainly in side view if the plane is banked slightly the tail plane hides it. On my OD Seafury I used a 14 swg skid that is almost invisible in the air, but I fly off grass.
  12. I had 5 flights today with the Ju88, after replacing a suspect motor everything went well, landings could have been better.
  13. Actually it is together Ron, the damage was done a while back. I put the ply reinforcing on the inside of the nacelle sides to take up the gap due to not having a 3D printer. but I do have slack arse trousers , A length of 4mm screwed rod may be an alternative for the front mounting bolts as it is difficult to get to the nuts on the inside.
  14. Thanks Trevor, I have considered using a separate 6v battery for the controls it would not be a problem as the plane fly's on half throttle, the wheels don't bottom out but the legs are long and with the oleo and the wheel it must be a fair weight to pull up
  15. This was after the motors cut. It looks worse than it was, there was only a tip of the wing that was damaged and the rear of the fuselage was ok
  16. Thanks Glynn, Ron and Ady. flying it yesterday in perfect conditions and no one there to take pictures. I did have a problem with it a few weeks back when I took off and at about 30ft operated the retract switch and the motors cut. it hit the ground hard but tough as old boots it did not sustain much damage. I thought I must have caught the engine cut off by mistake but after rebuilding the front end and nacelles I took it up to a good height and operated the retracts, the motors cut again so I dropped the wheels and they restarted. I took it higher and tried again, this time the motors kept running then after 2 circuits died. I shut the throttle and opened it again and they restarted. and got the plane back onto the strip. I checked the esc's and they seemed ok but I replaced them. The trannie was checked and there was no cross functions all switches doing what they should, then on ground checks with the props off it happened again, it was on Spektrum radio so I changed the system to Futaba and have not had any more problems. It may be the rx as I have flown other models with the Spektrum without problems. Now that it has had 8 successful flights with the Futaba gear I will refit the glazed nose and bomber canopy.
  17. I could not get text on the video was taken today from a mobile phone. A really great flying machine. Thanks again Richard.
  18. No one is brave enough after your tirade of abuse at anyone finishing a Spitfire in pink or civilian livery. Surprised Glyn did not do one in pink to match his top.
  19. Unless they have been saving their energy for the big games to come I can't see them progressing much further. It's as exciting as watching snow melt
  20. Hi Simon, Sig kits produced that model in the seventy's 72" span, one of our club members built one to a very high standard, similar colour scheme to yours. Black Horse also had an ARTF of the Ryan STA but I think the cowl was wider than scale for engine cooling. Not sure of the span of the Black Horse model. You got a bargain there for £30.
