  1. Xt60 the larger bullet type. Get a few male and female as they need to be soldered. A few, because you may "melt" the plastic blocks the first time you solder them. I did the first time with xt30's. Soldering the block to the battery leads, be extremely extremely extremely carefull as the battery will be LIVE !!!! You have stuff like heat shrink etc..... DO NOT SHORT CIRCUIT the battery !! Majic smoke and flames !!!!!!!!!
  2. Research the motor first which will probably have bullet connectors. Next research your chosen electronic speed controller for matching motor connections. Next would be your battery with compatable connectors to the speed controller. Check the ESC ( electronic speed controller ) for connectors to the reciever ( Rx ), they need to be the same as your Rx.
  3. A suprise for Xmas morning eh ! But you know what it is already, lol. Like you I am new to electric propulsion, more ci ( diesel ) and glow....born with oily hands. Try the kit manufacturer perhaps ? Some connectors are not liked, like the "blade" type. The "bullet" type are preferred it seems. Look on somewhere like 4 max and have a chat with George. I know what you are going thru as a recent purchase that arrived the other day had no real written instructions, only a non sensical sticker that just does not cut the mustard for me. I am waiting for some clear guidance and instructions from the distributor. Guessing and electronics don't mix and usually result in majic smoke and flames ! Anyways that a thread for next week. The power of social media if I don't get some proper guidance. I could just send it back but that will not sort the problem, only pass the problem on.
  4. Our local council get around RC flying on a beach ( are dunes part of a beach ) by stating that the use of radio equipment ( meaning boom boxes I think ) is not allowed. Still trying to get a copy of the up to date bye laws, not available to view in the public library... When I enquired about local bye laws directly to the council they said " what do you want to know for....?" Is a kite used on a public beach potentially capable of killing someone ?
  5. Any government scheme really. Remember the feasability study for an undersea tunnel from Scotland to Ireland, or was it a bridge... Waterfall effect.....universal credit inquest/inquiry...
  6. Fry...magic smoke...thanks Don.... Mo has a lab powersupply that is fully adjustable that I can loan and do a bench test. If the helo survives, new lipo it is I think...
  7. Head room yes, various currents yes, still looking for my data book which lists component data etc.. Keep it coming chaps, all good stuff...
  8. Charity shop then ? Old mags particularly with plans eat nothing and are well worth hanging onto, a usefull resource...
  9. Potential divider, two resistors capable of handling the "power" , quarter watt maybe. Two resistors same value would half the voltage, divided, a " chain"...centre tapping in this instance So get the proportions correct and end up with 3.2v from 3.7v at the centre tapping... A feel some Kirchoff and nodal analysys brewing... My data book is AWOL...3.3 v reg ts2950cz-3.3 at 72p but need data book for further info.... No smoothing needed as DC to dc.... Wieght is the problem... Thanks for the Schottky diode suggestion, need my data book, wth are you ! Thanks for the suggestions so far....much appreciated... Don't think one of those super capacitors will give enough duration..... A sc was used on the twin motor indoor flying models in Bethesda.
  10. Thinking about this, perhaps a 3.7 lipo and a resister "potential divider" chain to tap 3.2 volts, diode even, but a diode may "reduce" voltage tooo much ( down to 3.1 or 3 volts ) ? Any thoughts ? Will continue search for life battery, perhaps there are some suitable voltage regs out there I could utilise ?
  11. Thanks Ed, will have a good look today. 3.2 volts, lipo voltage higher ( 3.7 v ? ), Half a volt, may "roast" the helo electronics/board...
  12. Why not put them in your clubhouse ?
  13. Yeah brake cleaner, if the brake dust doesn't kill you the brake cleaner will. Poor tyre fitters, brake dust covered wheels etc. and air impact gun... Yes, damping stuff down helps but.... It's the customers dirt.... I will have to inspect my new lathe which is a Clarke.
  14. I have tried 4 max, component shop and wheelspin for a 3.2 volt 60mah Fe ( life ) battery for a Gadget Tini helicopter. Anyone know of a specialist battery supplier that may stock these please ? Thanks in advance, rich.
  15. Had a very interesting, informative and fun couple of hours watching indoor flying in Bethesda sports hall. Got to meet Martin and the group, nice friendly bunch. Thanks, will be taking some models to the next meeting in early December. Will try and post some pictures, apologies in advance for poor pictures. Will also get the Facebook group address that the lad has posted pictures and vidio"s to... Facebook.com/flying.bethesda
  16. Thanks KC Press plates now made for the car job that's on my back, pressing bearing out and new one in Saturday morning, off to Bethesda indoor flying venue Sunday, all being well. Then I can sort out longer ( bed, slides and gibs quite worn, it's at least 55 years old but still works, sort of ) gib adjusting screws and lock nuts.
  17. Thanks guys I emailed Tony at lathes UK, no joy. Will research ekp supplies... 1/4 X 32 sounded familiar, glow plug size... ? Threaded rod to make new screws would be nice, need longer screws as parts quite worn and lock nuts needed, but it still works. My cheapo tap and die set has 1/4 X 28 tap and die...
  18. Thanks eb Title page ? I have seen an add somewhere at the top of some forum, but not recently. Maybe I have the adds turned off, doh. I will give your link a try Thanks again eb.
  19. Any of you out there have an atlas lathe ? If so, where do you get spare parts from please ? I would like, for now, some new gib adjusting screws and nuts. They are "odd" American thread profiles which seem difficult to get here in the UK. I have googled Google UK with no success. Model fixings don't stock these odd thread profiles and sizes. I will Google Google USA later, also some other UK engineering web sites as well as model engineer forum, but it's worth an ask on here... Anyone ? Thanks in advance, rich.
  20. Epson printers for me have always been problematic. They always seem to misbehave after about 48 days, but a reinstall cures that, for 48 days ! They don't seem to have an "end" sensor, and crash into the ends with toothed belt skipping teeth etc., they basically go berserk. Printers can yield lots of usefull stuff like stepper motors, shafts that make good punches, some gears , toothed belt and cogs, and great targets. Toothed belt, tank tracks? The last Epson that p d me off was dragged down the quarry by its lead and shot, many times. Have hp combined scanner/printer which seems good but will not work with windows98, but PSU for that set up on way so can use its lone scanner. If your doing stuff against the clock, your computer will always stuff up.
  21. Yep your well and truelly hooked now with 5 planes and still learning to land well. Do you get a sloper or glider ? Keep going HC, you will learn something new every day. Old dogs can and do learn new tricks. Enjoy...
  22. When I enquired Weston's said that Thier fuel does not have any castor. That will please some on here. However what ever lub was in the fuel well and truelly welded itself onto the outside of the engine and was the devil to remove. Well and truelly caked and welded on. Magnum gp40 2 t engine, still runs well. Made in Taiwan. Enya no 3 glow plug but initially run on idle bar plug and straight caster. When I got the engine new I discovered lots of tiny glass beads inside the engine. I moaned ( to ripmax if I remember correctly ). A month later a new engine arrived un announced. Guess what, that one also had glass beads inside. No worries, a freebee, result. That one is still in its box, but cleaned.
  23. Thanks robin, I'm sure I checked them but will have another look...
