  5. hello mike, yes i am still going just about. who would have thought little old victor could generate athree page thread. i got the plan built model at a sale of a club members planes when he passed away.victor was the last model left looking very sad and unloved, full of long dead spiders, i took pity on him and gave the princely sum of £2 and took him home.after dusting him off and fitting an os 40 la and new battery i took him to the patch and asked a mate to test fly himhe checked every thing working well and took off ok but then said the elevator was devious as he put it but he managed to fly about a bit then landed it with no trouble. i took him home and after some investigation found the elevator pushrod was a quarter square balsa that was very flexable to say the least. the cure for this was to cut the hatch in rear of the fuse and glue a bar over the push rod to stop it flexing in flight .victor then flew well till one flight the trottle cable came off and victor was happely flying around on half throttle two of us tried evey trick we knew to get him cut out but he din want to stop. he flew on for at least 15 mins he was named victor meldrew for obvious reason s from the way he looked when i got him i hope he has a new lease of life when you get him back in the air as for me my list of defects get every longer 2heart attacks 2 stents stage 3 kidney deasese diabetese and last but least a mild stroke,so now trying to thin out the hanger before its to late, think i will change my name to victor soon regards phil

  9. just over a year ago, i was insured by swinton with an LV policy. my car wich i had ownly bought 11 days ago was written off while parked outside my house by a mad BMW driver doing about 70mph in a 30 limit he hit a line of cars, mine was the 3 cars he wrote off all 5 that were parked and his own this happened at 1630 just after all the school children had come home. by some miracle no body was hit. he pushed the second car in to mine then across the pavementinto a wall. he then tore my off side rear wheel and suspension right off my car and crushed the rear off side. i took photos and witness adresses. as i was calming down at about 1830 i got a phone call from LV the police had informed them of the accident. igave them the details and e mailed the photos and they agreed there and then it written off. the car was picked up by their truck later that night. this was on monday on thursday about 4pm i got a call saying where do i want the the money sent to bank ore check, they had paid what i had paid for the car originatly what a 5 star service then when i went to insure my new car the next year i wanted to stay with LV but the quote through switon was 150£ more as they didnt do the swinton special any more. as i have a protected no claims discount with swinton i got another deal at £160 less than the LV quote 0h by the way this carnage was less than 6 monthes after a pile up which wrote off 5 cars including the perpetrator who slid about 50 yards on his roof in same 2 hundreds yards of roadi think its time i moved house

  12. i was in the same situation a few years ago in west sussex. we shared a flying sight with micro lights. the field started letting a flying ads cesssna 182 use the sight for take and landing in between assighnments. the pilot had returned from a job after refueling at shoreham. he reloaded all his gear and took off, he had to make a fairly tight left turn after take to avoid flying over a caravan site. i watched him take off from about 60 yards away, he made a clean take off but turned too tightly to soon and too low. the plane dropped its left wing and tipstalled and crashed in to a corn field. on its nose.there were only three people on the field, me and the man and his duaghter who rented the the site. both me and roger ran to the plane while the girl phoned 999 . she had gone with the pilot on the flight to shoreham.. the plane had come down in waist high very ripe dry corn. me and roger were running from diferent directions to the plane to see what we could do and praying it did not catch fire. when we got there i went to check on the pilot but sadly he had died on impact as we got our breath back we realised the starboard wing had partaily brocken off and petrol was pouring out, and the ignition was still on, so we decided that as we couldnt do anything for the pilot to get a good distance away in case it cuaght fire the fire brigade came but as the corn was so high and dry and petrol every where they decided to leave the pilot where he was covered the plane with a tarp and left it till the next morning to get him out.. me and roger never gave a thought about fire or anything else till we realiesed there was nothing we could do for the pilot
  13. i like to fly on the cheap, ibuy models from club auctions and car boot sales. i recently bought a magister for ten pounds at our club auction it looked a bit unloved but was all there. a good check over, a 3s battery and a reicever and oof she went flies nicely and easy take off and landing. have been given a nice bixler all ready to fly by the friend who taught me to fly.the magister has a tow hook fitted so i,m going to try towing some time when i find a cheap glider
  14. i have had 3 of them 2 mk1 1mk2. the2 mk1 had at least 15 breaks glued up with epoxy before killed properly the mk2 was fitted with brushless and lipo and went like a bat out of hell. i now have inherited a mk 1 covered in brown paperand sprayed with gray primer this has stiffened the wings a lot. sadely it does not get a lot of flying these days
  15. an old three cylinder fork lift we had at work had a daily diet of three cans of easy start before it would kick in to a cloud of smoke and noise
  16. further to my last post, i talk to a lot more people wearing my grumpy old git teashirt than i used to. it gets a lot of smiles and comments
  17. i once bought a small music center from dixons on special offer for £69 99. the salesman said did i want insurance on it?, how much is it? £69 99, i said no thank you and he started to explain why it would be a good idea to have it, i told him i didnt want it go and get the item and i will pay for it thank you. he pulled a face and went off and came back with the deputy manager who still wanted me to get insurance. by now with a full head of steam i politely but very loudly told him to go and get me the center. up popped the manager wondering what all the noise was about . told him if ididnt get the center in one minute i would walk out and write to their head office to complain. within a minute item was on the counter price reduced to £49 99, so a very loud voice paid off. proud to be a grumpy old git and have the tea shirt to prove it

  19. hi ed, i have sold the futaba for £10 so an even better bargain . the air frame has seen better days but is still flyable. the wings have many patches some of them elastoplast. it needs a new canopy but that can wait a while. the saito 30 is running well but i dont think its reaching full revs at the moment but it powers the old girl quite well anyway. the prop is a master 9by 5 at the moment but i do have an apc 9 by 5 to try some time. regards phil
  20. thanks jon i can now experiment regards phil
  21. hi there, i have just bought a DB excel with a saito 30 upfront which is running well but i wondered if any body could tell me what the maximum revs are for this this engine and what prop sizes would suit. its running a 9 by 5 at the moment. i got this plane at headcorn for £30 complete with 2.4 futaba reciever and all servo.s i think the engine alone was worth that regards phil
