Olly P
Evening all, Well I'm now officially hooked on glider piloting and had my first flight today. Full sized glider and got to control the aircraft. I'm hopefully back up at the weekend!!!
John Privett
Good, isn't it! Though I've not flown a glider for 20+ years. Did you have an aerotow or a winch launch? Edited By John Privett on 19/05/2010 18:36:
simon barr
Where did you fly, Ollly? I'm off gliding again in a few weeks time, but like John, its about ten years since my last flight...

Peter 'Ivanna Crashalot' Savage
Mount a flycam on the wing or something!
birdy
Powered flying is even more fun! Especially if you do it with an ex-raf nutter.

birdy
You could join the local University air squadren, but then you'd have to go into the RAF.

David Ashby - Moderator
Nice one Olly. My only glider flights were with the ATC in a Kirby Cadett glider back in 1977/8. Thoroughly enjoyed them.
Martin Harris - Moderator
Word of warning Olly - I had a trial flight in a glider in 1977 and within a year had abandoned model flying altogether having become totally immersed in gliding... Took me 26 years to come back!

My first glider flight was in October 1976, followed by 9 more in 1977 and another 6 in 1978. Then a bit of a gap until two more in '89 and none since then. Simon Chaddock
OllyWhat glider was it? Presumably a glass ship of some sort. When I started they tended to be built by Slingsby out of spruce and ply and were covered with fabric. Just huge models really and for a time they were pulled into the air with a Tiger Moth (another huge model and it was hand started!) There is nothing quite like the sense of achievement you get when your glider is higher than its launch height. (or the panic the first time you lose sight of the airfield)
