Jeff Mills
Leave the "e" off the end and search for Harlequin. Jeff Edited By Jeff Mills on 24/02/2012 19:24:

David Ashby - Moderator
Welcome Richard. Harlequin is a new Peter Miller design - the mag is still on newagent's shelves for another week along with the article and plan. Piccy of the model here too. Anything in particular you'd like to know? Peter Miller
Hi Richard. Have fun with Harlequin. IT is very easy to build and great fun to fly.
Bob Black
Hello David, Any indication yet of there being a CNC woodpack for the Harlequin in the near future? Regards Bob
David Ashby - Moderator
Hi Bob, yes we're working on that now, should be available in a few weeks, I'll update here when that happens.
Anthony Billings
A question for Peter really, what are your thoughts on the Harlequin as a follow-on model from a high wing trainer ? I really like the look of this model, and although my flying skills are nowhere near ready for a move up, I would like to build the Harlequin anyway. Peter Miller
Yes, definitely Harelquin would be ideal. Don't over power it, a 40 FS or a .32 two stroke and you will have a model that will do everything you want without being too hairy. I have allowed a club novice to fly mine and taught him to do loops and roll with it. he had no problems
Anthony Billings
Cheers for that Peter, although (hides behind wife) I will convert to electric when I come to build this model plus I think I will take advantage of the forthcoming cnc woodpack as well. Peter Miller
Well, it is light enough to convert, nice low wing loading.
Myron Beaumont
Peter Don't encourage Anthony ! We'll grass on his wife -won't we if he doesn't stick to your recommendations ?
Peter Miller
Hi Myron. I have given up! So long as they don't complain when it it doesn't fly as well as I said it would and as long as no one asks me to even think about giving up my lovely engines....they can do what they want. Anthony Billings
Myron that is below the belt lol, although to be honest, she was looking over my shoulder when I was reading the article in this month's mag and it was her idea, she said that looks a good model, how difficult would that be to build and so, Harlequin is the next in line after my Super 60 build. I think she is trying to get on my good side after finishing the decorating in the lounge, and nearly finished the new bathroom as I did here a mention to my daughter about the dining room could do with decorating now !!! As for electric conversion, all my heli's and my new found delight in building planes are electric so at the moment I will stay that way, although that's not to say that sometime in the future I might not give ic a go. As for my flying skills, sadly they are not on a par with my heli flying skills, so when the weather improved, I am going to treat myself to a course of flying lessons from XEL Model Flying Services down here in Cornwall so eventually I can do justice to Peter's model. Myron Beaumont
Peter I reckon the noise abatement people had shares in the lektrik industry years ago to promote their R&D .Looks like they're winning and taking away a lot of the fun experienced by mechanical engineers .By the way,the only items I don't have in my spares box are the bell cranks for the Harlequin . I looked at all my servo arms and thought Hmmm surely I could utilise some of them with some sort of bearing inserted in the splines ,either that or make a couple out of plywood (like we used to ). Any suggestions apart from travel miles to buy some (not my style)?
Peter Miller
You could cut them out of Paxolin or epoxy printed circuit board or aluminium (it would wear) or you could use a separate servo in each wing. I supose you could use one of the cross shaped or big disc output arms as well, never thought of that.
NewBuilderFlyer
Canopy Choice The Harlequin is my very first balsa plane project and I'm enjoying every minute - even though I'm struggling at times. Thank you Peter for your design. The plans mention a 8" canopy from Vortex Vacform and I've looked on their website but cannot find the relevant code - could someone please suggest a suitable one (I lack the experience to be able to source a replacement). Peter Miller
TOP. Aileron servo mounting and connection. Use Radio ACtive servo mount brackets. Below. Main installation. Note that there should be another lump of foam rubber over the Rx. Glue 1/8" sheet to sides with sockets for the servo bearers. Glue bearers in firmly.
