Robert Armstrong 2
I have a 1.20 4 stroke looking for a warbird, my first. I would rather go for something other than a Spitfire or Mustang (just want to be different). I keep thinking about the Blackhorse Stuka (no retracts!) or a 190 (like the looks). Any Thunderbolts that size anyone has experience of (told that most fly well)? I'm not much or a builder, so an artf is preferred. Thanks in advance for any thoughts. Towlie
Have you looked at the Hanger 9 warbirds ? The new bf109 looks very nice and most 90 size warbirds would fly on a 120 as they can usually do with the added nose weight.
Concorde Speedbird
You asked for something other than a Spitfire, so could a Seafire be an option?! Different! CS
Paul Marsh
I second Seafire. Got one with a OS120 Fs-p. Flew it at the Greenacres do last w/e. Merlin Innovations have one on special price at the moment.

Martin Harris - Moderator
I've flown a Black Horse FW190 a few times recently and it handles superbly, has loads of "presence" due to its size and really looks good in the air. The SC120 provides ample power for nice big loops. The owner didn't like the retracts supplied (flimsy and faulty) so upgraded to Eflite 120 sized (87.5 degree) which were virtually exact drop in replacements. As another owner who is assembling one also came to the same conclusion I'd budget for a set if this model appeals to you. I'm certainly very impressed so far. One oddity is that both qwners made the same mistake while assembling their models - quite independently. They poured scorn on Black Horse for assembling one of the flap servo hatch covers wrongly and turned one round, removing and refixing the printed covering to match. Neither considered that flaps both operate in the same direction and so need asymmetry...it cost the first one 2 servos (long story) and a servo reverser and the second some extra work and a hole to fill. Another very nice model for a 120 that I flew was a Kyosho Mustang - flew well and a very effective rendition of a natural aluminium finish. Lee Smalley
i would try the yt international range they do some really odd subjects like the Val divebomber
Victor Saliba
Kyosho Spitfire or Kyosho Mustang 90s. The BH FW190 is good too but retracts are rubbish.
Djay
World Models 120 size P47, as in my picture. Flies like a dream and as tough as old boots. Darryl

Steve_Wright
slowly No excuse really given the weather we are having, except i am ebaying hard to get the funds for the retracts, not going with the e-flight ones, will try the ones from the US i posted in my (none)build thread. Tail wheel is still bugging the hell out of me though! LOL
Robert Armstrong 2
Thanks for the comments guys. The Thunderbolt and 190 are currently favourite, with the stuka hanging in there. The narrow track u/c puts me off the 109, though I like the looks. The YT Val needs a bigger engine (though the range has some very attractive models, though a lot are too big (expensive) for me. Robert Armstrong 2
Very few of the YT range are actually available it seems
Paul Travis
Just a quick update just before I was committing to buy a friend offered me his kyosho spitfire which I bought straight away for a bargain, only flown once then placed in his hangar. so my h9 will have to hold off for now Did you decide on one Robert ? Robert Armstrong 2
I thought I had sorted one, but was (very tactfully) 'advised' by clubmates that my landings weren't up to a model with retracts. Since i have recently knocked the u/c off both a Wot4 and an AcroWot, they seem to be right. Must practice!
.
How about a P40 Warhawk?
Robert Armstrong 2
Would not be right without retracts. See my prevous post about my 'retract unfriendly' landings Try again when better
Lindsay Todd
I reveiwed the World Models P47 3 or 4 years ago now for RCM&E its still flying great with 100's of flights, if you want something that flys great and as tuff as old boots this is pretty darn good. Max50
What's the length of the World Models P47?. The instructions have it down as 67 ins, but in Steve Webbs and a review i was reading stated it is 62 ins. The 5 inches could mean the difference between getting it in the car or not.
Lindsay Todd
Just measured at 64inches, 62 if you kick the rudder over. I guess their is a little scope for variation pending the engine you fit. Linds Edited By Lindsay Todd on 26/09/2013 21:42:
