flight1
I believe FrSky is actually meant To be said 'Free' 'Sky' a statement to an open and all things on a fair and equal playing field as far as flying Rc I believe
Frank Skilbeck
And maybe they called it Taranis because it can fly one of these it is mean to have a long range mode for long range FPV.
Jan Ragnar Melfald
I received the Taranis transmitter two weeks ago. I am now ready with the first model ready programmed. A beatiful kyosho spitfire 50. I am not very familiar with programming, so I was a little bit worried about this. My children learnt this in school, but the elder have to learn it by themselves. I red all I could find on the net about Taranis, with open network. Believe me, its not so difficult. ! If you follow the instructions its actually plain simple, nothing to be worried about. If you do something wrong in the programming, just delete the line, and you are back on start. I really believe that this is the future, so come on all of you !! Chris Jones 7
Got mine about two weeks ago. I fly mostly Quads and Sports planes with a DLG in the mix. The programming is not quite as intuitive as my DX8 but that said once I started to get my head round it I found it makes perfect sense. Also, what is strange, I have found that every model so far seems to fly better on the Taranis than on the DX8? I can only assume this is due to better quality gimbals as there was certainly nothing wrong with the DX8, I just seem to be better connected with the Taranis. Strange! Phil Winks
it may also due in some extent to a possibly better/finer radio link I think the resolution is possible finer on the taranis though I expect to be corrected on this point. Still a very encouraging report Chris. Phil

AJ
I think I read that resolution is also up at 4096 points, this plus the low latency make it a very precise control, probably better than any other standard production tx around at the moment. Andrew.
Chris Jones 7
All makes sense. Makes a mockery of the claims I've heard that the average club flyer wouldn't be able to feel a difference in latency/ resolution though. I am a distinctly average pilot but even I know that something is going on. Not really bothered what it is, just know that my models feel nicer! Right - time to get to grips with custom voice alerts. "Chris, the flaps are down Chris!"
Jan Ragnar Melfald
I think Frsky have set a new standard re. technology and certainly price level. when I bought the jr x9 transmitter three years ago, it cost me five times more ! AJ
Chris, if you connect the altimeter in there you could probably get the Taranis to remind you to put flaps up/down as you take off/land. Andrew.
Oops
To a complete beginner, the Taranis looks really interesting. I was going to get an entry level computer Tx such as a DX6i, but it seems there's added fun in programming the Tx itself! Eg, from a quickstart manual I've just found: "The power switch is also a slider switch, but not programmable. All other switches, sliders and knobs are fully programmable and can be used for a variety of tasks." Quickstart: http://www.alofthobbies.com/files/Taranis_Quick_Start_Guide.pdf Manual: https://code.google.com/p/opentx/wiki/OpenTx_FrSky_EN Amazing tutorial video collection: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2042885&highlight=tarani+video Links assortment: http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=96&t=3537&mobile=desktop Edited By marc bowden on 03/01/2014 21:48:

Dave Bran
Posted by Braddock, VC on 03/11/2013 19:00:12: I often wondered how the chinese arrived at the names they gave their equipment, frsky taranis is obviously as a result of their liking for the sinatra clan. Ah, so we'll ignore that Taranis effectively means "Thunder" then?

Oops
Thanks Phil and everyone, but I decided in the end as I'm just starting out to get a basic dx6i, I'll look at open source when again maybe another time.
Phil Winks
Posted by Oops on 08/01/2014 21:29:45: Thanks Phil and everyone, but I decided in the end as I'm just starting out to get a basic dx6i, I'll look at open source when again maybe another time. if you look at the HK Orange RX T6 you'll find it is a DX6i but a lot cheaper. I use one and its great and binds to all the BNF models with DSM2 My apologies if this has come to late for you

Jeff-C
Can anyone with a Taranis tell me if there Channel 32 fluctuates. It can been seen on the digital display that shows switch position.
Bob Cotsford
Posted by Jeff-C on 08/01/2014 22:06:07: It can been seen on the digital display that shows switch position. the only place I can see it is on the second 'channel monitor' page (channels 17-32), and it's rock steady on 0.
