I received the Taranis transmitter two weeks ago.

I am now ready with the first model ready programmed. A beatiful kyosho spitfire 50.

I am not very familiar with programming, so I was a little bit worried about this.

My children learnt this in school, but the elder have to learn it by themselves.

I red all I could find on the net about Taranis, with open network.

Believe me, its not so difficult. ! If you follow the instructions its actually plain simple, nothing to be worried about.

If you do something wrong in the programming, just delete the line, and you are back on start.

I really believe that this is the future, so come on all of you !!

Got mine about two weeks ago. I fly mostly Quads and Sports planes with a DLG in the mix. The programming is not quite as intuitive as my DX8 but that said once I started to get my head round it I found it makes perfect sense.

Also, what is strange, I have found that every model so far seems to fly better on the Taranis than on the DX8? I can only assume this is due to better quality gimbals as there was certainly nothing wrong with the DX8, I just seem to be better connected with the Taranis. Strange!

All makes sense.

Makes a mockery of the claims I've heard that the average club flyer wouldn't be able to feel a difference in latency/ resolution though. I am a distinctly average pilot but even I know that something is going on. Not really bothered what it is, just know that my models feel nicer!

Right - time to get to grips with custom voice alerts. "Chris, the flaps are down Chris!"

To a complete beginner, the Taranis looks really interesting. I was going to get an entry level computer Tx such as a DX6i, but it seems there's added fun in programming the Tx itself!

Eg, from a quickstart manual I've just found:

"The power switch is also a slider switch, but not programmable. All other switches, sliders and knobs
are fully programmable and can be used for a variety of tasks."

Quickstart:

Manual:

I often wondered how the chinese arrived at the names they gave their equipment, frsky taranis is obviously as a result of their liking for the sinatra clan.

Ah, so we'll ignore that Taranis effectively means "Thunder" then? wink 2wink 2

Thanks Phil and everyone, but I decided in the end as I'm just starting out to get a basic dx6i, I'll look at open source when again maybe another time.

if you look at the HK Orange RX T6 you'll find it is a DX6i but a lot cheaper. I use one and its great and binds to all the BNF models with DSM2 My apologies if this has come to late for you
