Tim Hooper
Aaaaah..... I haven't seen the lady in question, so I'll have to take your word for it! tim
Tim Hooper
So here's the cowl being built up from laminations of balsa.. Roughly shaped, and the side cheeks front ends fitted. The canopy is form a 2 litre bottle shrunk around a balsa plug. Seems to fit! Undercarriage and lower hatch. Battery hatch cut free. There's a ply tongue at the front and a magnet at the rear. ......and here's the complete airframe all pinned together! Lindsay Todd
Very smart, one of those designs that just looks right in any size, well done that man. What about a large petrol version next? Linds

Danny Fenton
You certainly got a wriggle on there Tim, are you "avoiding" the epic pile of ironing perhaps? Cheers Danny Edited By Danny Fenton on 12/12/2013 09:07:
Erfolg
I do believe I have purchased the self same female for my (yet to start although drawn up) 1/6 scale yellow canary. Which also approx 36" span. I am sure she will be a fine pilot.

What about a large petrol version next? Linds Thanks Linds! I'm already being pursued for a 72" version. I was thinking ab out a 15cc petrol engine. Would that be about right? I haven't dabbled in the oily, smelly, dirty side for nearly 40 years, and petrol seems far preferable to glow..... What about a low-wing version, with retracts? You;re right about the ironing! There's plentyof work to do on the Quad first though - I'm estimating another 2 months to get it airworthy. I just needed a break! Erf, I have Flossie's sister (Bunty - a very sporting sort of gel, don'tcha know) in my little Wasp bipe, so I know that aviation is in her jeans. tim Edited By Tim Hooper on 12/12/2013 13:50:
Concorde Speedbird
The small one looks cool, I like it. Small models are always great, this one should be pretty fast too. A 72" one would be very grand, I'd love to see a petrol one. A 15cc sounds about right since it is a sleek aeroplane and as long as it is light that would be excellent. Petrol engines are great, very clean and reliable, although I think the glow ones are easier to use, but such a talented modeler such as yourself would have few problems. Keep up the work on this one, will it be a free plan? CS

If it flies, that is....... Anyway, t'was Christmas Day in the workshop.... Well, it's finished. Came in at 25oz to give a loading of just less than 16 oz/ft. Colour scheme is sort of monochrome. Tim Calvert at modelmarkings.com did the graphics. Nice, huh? Flossie gets a couple of dials to monitor. The magnetic hatch reveals a bay big enough for a 1300 to 2200 3S pack. The u/c and hatch get screwed in place. The elevator snake. The horns are cut from 1/32 ply.
Down Under
If this per chance should be a plan in RCME, add it to my build list. You have an avid fan down under, Mr Hooper. Love the monochrome colour scheme too, by the way. Edited By Down Under on 25/12/2013 22:04:

Tim Hooper
Thank you Gents! Well, perfect weather this afternoon saw us at the field and ready to go. With the an old 1800 pack fitted, the Sweep ploughed through the soggy grass for 10 yards or so, and then took to the air. It's lovely! A few clicks of down trim was the only adjustment needed, and then some slow fly-bys so Netty could grab a few pics. The we swopped tx and camera, so she could have a play with it too. A few minutes lates later I took control again and started a few simple aerobatics - loops, brisk rolls and inverted passes followed by a very gentle landing. No vices, no tip-stall, no flutter, no problems at all. Now I need to hook up with my usual lensman, Bob, and get some 'proper' shots in the can. tim

Matt Jones
One question Tim, engine cooling? There appears to be none especially given how close the wood pieces are that you made the cowl from....

Tim Hooper
Thanks Les! Matt, there's air sneaking in behind the spinner which can come out again through a hole in the bottom of the cowl, just ahead off the chin scoop. tim
