David Davis
I have recently obtained a Dave Smith Dalotel at a more than reasonable price, (thanks Gavin!) The model has a 68 inch (173cms) wingspan and though I have the build instructions, there are no references to the size of engine that should be used. I have a number of engines in the 60-120 range both two stroke and four stroke. Which should I use?
cymaz
I have done a bit of digging. The 67" was the Super Dalotel. Kieth Jackson On the GBRCAA flew it with a YS 60. Hows that? Or this Edited By cymaz on 05/04/2015 08:33:
Andrew767
Hi David A friend of mine has been flying one of these for the last 20yrs and it flys very well on an O.S. 90 2stroke.Bearing in mind that he's a heavy builder you might get away with something a little smaller. David Davis
Looks like my Irvine 72 might fit the bill or my OS 61 SF on a tuned pipe.
David Davis
...or should I fit my lovely old Enya 120 four-stroke?
Stevem3akm
Er, no. It will perform best with the OS. Regards Steve

Andrew767
Yes David. My friend suggests a tuned pipe with the .61. Andrew
Sam Wragg
Why not run the Irvine on a tuned pipe & swing a bigger prop than the OS= more power / less noiseS
Jon H
enya
Bob Cotsford
" Why not run the Irvine on a tuned pipe & swing a bigger prop than the OS= more power / less noise S" = +1 "enya 120" No Jon, not on an old style aerobatic job, it needs to scream not growl! David Davis
Think I'll go for the Irvine with the tuned pipe. Simon and Bob know what they're talking about.
Steve Dunning
OS 61 SF plus tuned pipe. Steve Burgess used a Super Tigre 61, firstly with a standard silencer but fitted a tuned pipe to provide 'competition' performance. Hope to see you at a UKCAA event, see that Forum section.
