Area 51
Hi all, looking for some help! I have a plan for 57" model at around 1/5 scale, I would like to enlarge to give me a 1/4 scale off the same plan... Is there a straight forward formula to use to acheive this? My guess is I will probably need to go to a print shop to get this done as it is not in a format on my PC but a printed plan. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

KingKade
Sory i didnt explain.. I look at it the other way round.. What would i multiple 1/4 by to get 1/5.. Ie id multiple 4 by 1.25 to get 5. Just as well im not a teacher.....
KingKade
I suppose another way of cracking this is to think of 1/1 scale is 100, 1/4 scale is 25, 1/5 scale is 20.... So what would you multiple 20 bt the get 25? 1.25 Is that easier?
Area 51
Morning and thanks for this input and extra thought! I am on the right track now. Do you know of any printing firms that enlarge in this way? Thanks again!
Kevin 216
Staples have printing service they can enlarge plans to suit and print from a roll of paper up to 35 inches wide - I think this is A0 size.
adrian lawrence 1
Staples printing and copying service is very good, it's the only place I will use now. Prices are very reasonable and they are extremely helpful.
Area 51
Hi thanks, for this, just checked out their website and it shows a plans/copying service about 15mls from me! Do they enlarge the drawing or just 1:1 Thanks again
Peter Miller
MOst office supply shops can do enlargements. I even have two in my local small town. Be aware that there can be some distortion as the plan goes through. Not enough to cause problems unless you are after super scale.
Area 51
Thanks all, I will go online and see what I can get locally and watch out too for the topics mentioned. Been handy for me to sort this one out as I have a few plans I have similar thoughts on! Cheers one and all for the assistance
David Burrows
http://www.model-plans.co.uk/ can enlarge your plans
kc
The calculator way to scale up plans is to put the required size into the calculator and then divide by the size measured off plan. The resulting figure is the factor you use to multiply every dimension. You can put this figure into the calculator as a constant to save keep typing it in. And of course put it in with many decimal places if you are scaling up a tiny magazine plan to fullsize. Note that the balsa sizes may need adjusting to get the required strength and then may need to be amended to utilise standard sizes. If a plan is scanned to a pdf it can be printed 'tiled' in many sheets of A4 paper on your home printer.. Try adjusting print size to 'Poster' and scale to 100percent in Adobe Reader (Acrobat.) then it's a case of sellotaping it all together! Of course you don't always need to print the whole plan, perhaps just the formers might suffice. Edited By kc on 25/06/2015 19:50:
stu knowles
Derick at the link posted by David Burrows above is THE go to place for plan enlargement. He has done a couple for me, one in really poor condition, very orange paper and faded ink. The result were absolutely first class and his prices are unbeatable (unless you happen to work nights somewhere with a large photocopier

Stevo
No comment to that last posting. At these sort of times I usually get on to yell.co.uk etc and find a local print firm who can do A0. Never found one that could not enlarge one of my plans!
