Dom (Essential RC)
I had a fantastic weekend at the NATS. Previously I have taken part in Showline with a couple of models...but this time around I committed to travelling around everything and capturing the action. I pedelled quite a few miles on my bike but I got it done and took a lot of vid. Never had so much fun in the hobby. First offering is the epic Free Flight from Saturday evening. Fantastic friendly atmosphere and a lot of fun. Enjoy !
Dom (Essential RC)
First time for FPV Quads at the Nationals. It was great entertainment. Highly skilled pilots getting their fast quads around a tight circuit in ~24 seconds. Crashes and collisions along the way.
bouncebounce crunch
BMFA insurance fees at its best. don't get me wrong, I love adventure and risk, that is part of the reason I love our hobby/sport, but launching over herds of spectators must be breaking the proximity rules. we cant even taxi models to the flight line from the pit area. Dom (Essential RC)
From what I saw the launching was being done away from the crowd and this is what the marshalls were trying to reinforce...and did remind people who didn't do that. What did happen is that models would occassionally get taken by the breeze or be trimmed to inadvertently take them toward the crowd. bouncebounce crunch
Sorry gents. You got me wrong I would have loved to have been amongst the throngs. And I surely would not have been complaining, I was merely commenting on the 30 metre rule we have in our aeromodelling rules in Oz, what is on your very enjoyable video probably would be unacceptable down here. the biggest nanny state in the world has to be Australia. Paul Jefferies
Thanks Dom, a great video. I was there on the Saturday too....... though you missed my model! The freeflight session is the main reason I go to the Nats. Yes, I suppose it is potentially dangerous but the models are so light and most of the engines are so small........ People are aware of the dangers, it is why they go there and they keep their eyes open, I have never seen anyone get injured. It is probably not a good place to take very young children but really great for middle aged children! Paul
Dom (Essential RC)
Sorry missed you Paul. Make sure you tap me on the shoulder next year and I'll def give you a big include in the vid.

Dom (Essential RC)
This one was new to me. Control line combat. Fun to watch. Don't know how these guys don't get very dizzy. Again obviously demands great skill to get on the tail of the other guy and cut his streamer.
