Chris Barlow
Nice panelling detail there John. Yes close up photos show everything. I try to avoid them!
Peter Miller
Don't worry about the close up photos. Looks better than mine. But as I alwasy say, they look good at 50 feet!! Anyway that paint job is great
Devcon1
The panelling is just straight lines pushed into the film/balsa using a bluntish pencil and then a mixture of Turps and Burnt Umber oil paint painted over, when dry this is polished off leaving residue in the lines to give a panel effect. 50 feet looks good to me. Out of interest I've worked out a wing loading of 14.5 ounces per square foot on mine, just curious how that compares to the other builds that have been completed. Peter Miller
Hard to compare wing loadings but probably pretty good all things considered. My full size one is about 19 ounces per square foot. A small model would really benefit from a lower wingloading bearing in mind that the bigger the wing the more eficient it is. So 14.5 oz, per sq. ft. should be pretty good. Devcon1
Nearly done, possible flight this Sunday. 2.2 3 cell pack sits on a balsa shelf and retained with Velcro. Access hatch retained by magnets. As with some of the other Ballys rudder and elevator servos mounted rearwards. Final weigh in comes out at 1 lb 15 ounces with COG about 5 mm behind stated which I'm quite happy with. John

Peter Miller
Hope you get the test flights tomorrow. It is looking cold, a bit breezy and cloudy in East Anglia. YUK!
Devcon1
Well I think it's project completed. Pilot is a 1/10 scale German fellow from EBay of the flexible rubber type. He's been painted in various Tamiya acrylics and weathered with turps and oil paints on a Johnsons Klear base. Headrest is painted Warsteiner beer cap. Last pic is a quick build 1/24 GR3 project for my shed roof diorama, it's rather big John Full flight report to be filed when the weather comes bCk
