fly boy3
Hi all, some time this week I am going to to maiden (weather permitting) a Maricardo. It comes with a 52 4stroke which is at the higher end of its motor range. I would like a nice pleasurable flight, so what prop can I use to give me this scenario. LoL. I have 2 props available at the moment, 1,11x6, and 2, 12x5. Perhaps neither is quite suitable ? Thanks Edited By fly boy3 on 28/08/2016 19:28:30 Edited By fly boy3 on 28/08/2016 19:29:
Peter Miller
The 12X 5 will be fine. I prefer a 12 X6 but the 12X5 will do for test flights. IT will make the model a touch slowere but make it climb better.. Think of lower pitch like a lower gear on your car.
fly boy3
Thanks Peter, I think "slower" was the word I was looking for rather then pleasurable. Fingers crossed for the weather. Cheers
Low pass Pete
I am using a 12x6 APC on my OS52 surpass in my Ballerina. This gives excellent performance. Edited By Low pass Pete on 28/08/2016 20:35:
Denis Watkins
Have no reservations FB, with this powerplant and prop, the sound alone will mesmerise you
fly boy3
Nice one Dennis. You are quite correct, love the sound of a 4stroke. I have a venerable Laser 61, which always collects favourable comments from club members even the leccy boys LoL. Thanks LPP too.
Tony Richardson
Like Pete M I prefer the 12x6, I have an OS 52fs in a 6 foot span Sig Rascal and it is perfect, gobs of torg even on floats, go with the 12x5 I don"t think you will be disappointed you can move to the higher pitch later if you feel the need. Jon H
I agree with the comments above. 12x5 as a starter for 10 and then 12x6 after that. If you want more trust and less speed, especially for landing, you can also try a 13x5 but this will load the engine a fair bit so will not give maximum performance in terms of HP but will give good thrust. bert baker
A nice heavy prop will keep engine running better, Grey Graupner ones work well.
