Douglas Wheelhouse 1
Hi All After reading the article in the latest RCME on make your own servo leads I decided to have a go. Got the crimping tool & Futaba plugs it just needs cable. What would be the optimum guage of cable to use? (22 guage?) . Would appreciate your input. Thank you. Denis Watkins
Get Servo cable Douglas, from your online plug and socket supplier
Tim Kearsley
Yep, just look for servo cable Douglas, and, as I said in the article, I would go for heavier gauge rather than light stuff. That way, your extension leads will be able to cope with the heavier current demands of larger, higher torque servos. Cheers, Tim. Allan Bennett
Heavier gauge also has the advantage that it minimises any voltage loss if you're making long extensions.
Tim Kearsley
Good point Allan, absolutely right. Tim.
Geoff S
... and use twisted cable for those extra long extensions on bigger models. The light stuff is great for very small models when you're trying to keep the weight right down. Geoff
cymaz
I bought some servo wire from the Component shop
Andy Green
I wrote this a few years ago now. Might help. Andy
KiwiKid
Great info here - as recommended I always like to add some 12.5mm Toroidal ferrite ring coated noise suppressors to each servo wire for a bit of noise control on long run jobs. I have never been quite sure at which point they are needed lengthwise, but they don't weigh much and provide good insurance. I added some ailerons to my Chris Foss HiPhase which work very well (o/a the shallow dihedral) with no issues.
