Stuphedd
It is 43" span and looks like a Vic Smeed design, I thought it was a Mam-selle or aCortesan but it does not quite match either and the original builder cannot remember ! So a little help if possible please
Peter Miller
I have been through my old plans catalogues and while there are similar models tnhere is nothing identical and none with a span of 42". There is always the change that it was a Model Aircraft paln but I do not have their catalogues from that era

Stuphedd
Thanks Peter , It is possible that the builder guy modified the plan ? but I dont know why ?I believe it flew at Cocklebarrow. and John , yes its a jet , a diesel one !! cheers
kc
PAAgeboy by Vic Smeed? here on Outerzone PAAgeboy - Vic Smeed design from Aeromodeller July 1953. The name comes from the competition PAAload (sponsored by Pan American Airlines). Edited By kc on 13/02/2017 15:48:
brokenenglish
It's a Vic Smeed "Soubrette" (I think!). I'll post the plan if I can find out how! kc
It seems to be Soubrette
brokenenglish
Yeah, I think that's it, although the photos seem to show a sheeted leading edge...
kc
The info says Soubrette is only 28 inch span - while this model is 43 inch. Is 28 correct for Soubrette? Edited By kc on 13/02/2017 16:44:
Stuphedd
Thanks chaps a Soubrette is what it appears to be albeit the span is suspect , It has the same tail plane shape and construction and the same number of ribs in the wings and the tail etc etc , so I think you are bang on !! How about a Soubrette Major !! once again thanks pete
Peter Miller
The fuseage one the mystery model has an almost square bottom unlike this strngered one. Also the window is square so I think it cannot not be Soubrette , especially with the discrepancy in the span Edited By Peter Miller on 13/02/2017 18:22:
Engine Doctor
Looks like a Vic Smear " Mamselle to me .

brokenenglish
I still think it's a scaled Soubrette. Peter, look at the first photo, showing the underside of the plane. IMO the fuselage bottom is rounded and stringered. The Mam'selle, etc. are non-starters. It's nothing like a Mam'selle.
PatMc
I'd say it's definitely an enlarged Soubrette. The design was published in Aeromodeller July 2008 (I assume when the AM was at the time still incorporated in AMI mag) & was 30" span. However in first paragraph of the accompanying article it's suggested that the plan could be enlarged by 120% or 130% if a Mills .75 was to be used. Currently someone in Australia is/was building a 48" version for a "build of" organised in the RCG vintage section.
Stuphedd
The side windows are different , but if it is an "enlargement" the smaller/original windows would not look so good , so maybe a bit of builders licence ??! Its still a pretty plane , in the process of building a new tailplane to enable "Radio Assist " cheers
Engine Doctor
Posted by Percy Verance on 13/02/2017 20:52:38: Vic Smear? I imagine he made his mark? Sorry to the late great Vic Smead .I hate these predictive text programs on tablets cant seem to turn it off !!!
kc
If you look at the plan shown yesterday you will see top right the alternative square fuselage formers and a note saying "Square Dancer" so it could have square fuselage. Maybe a hybrid with just rounded tops and square underneath? no experienced modeller builds exactly to the published plan! And to set the record straight the great man's name is Vic Smeed. more info about him here but that understates his planes and some ( such as Electra) are missing from the list. Stuphedd
The underneath is round with 5 stringers. cheers
PatMc
Link to a PDF file of the AM July 2007 Soubrette article posted by RFJ in an RCG thread - post #10 refers. Details for the Square Dancer version are also given.
kc
The plan for the Soubrette does not seem to be available from Aeromodeller ( Doolittle media now) - it was not listed in the ADH plans list either. I have been right through the latest Aeromodeller online catalogue and there is no sign of it ( the current online list seems just a copy of the paper version given out by ADH in about 2013 ) So the article is available but not a high quality plan. Stuphedd
here is another one for you , This one I used to fly with my uncle at the common behind Windermere , I guess in the very early 50s, its 42" span , and age has not been very kind to it ( well it could have been me !!) so what "was" it ??? a Sprite what ?? Stuphedd
This weekend the Soubrette , well whatever Vic Smeed designed , had 4 flights under Radio assistance , with no problems at all , There are vids on utube , but they are"very normal " The next one to trial will be the Southerner Mite ! cheers
Stuphedd
The yellow and red plane which has yet to be identified has been re-engineered with a lot of new bits and is now ready for covering !!
