Anthony Pratt 1
Trying to find an adhesive to attach a hard plastic motor mount into an EPO fuselage. Any ideas please. Tony
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Mmmm, that's a tricky one! It's obviously going to be a stressed joint so its has to be good and TBH I wouldn't be 100% confident in any bond because the underlying EPO isn't that strong! If there was no alternative and I had to do it I'd probably think in terms of well keying the plastic with some sandpaper then using perhaps epoxy or maybe Gorilla glue. But its a joint I'd want to keep a very careful eye on for some time once in use. BEB PS How big a motor are we talking about? Denis Watkins
You need to add some 90° prongs to the motor mount Tony I used 1/8th diameter, 1" long aluminium rivets, Embeded into the motor mount pushed into the foam, into pre hot melt holes, drilled with a hot rod The whole lot is then pushed in using araldite or your favourite glue
Plummet
The foam will flex. The motor and CA glue will not.. I have never used silicone sealer with foam, but it might be a good long-term solution. Clean surfaces well first to remove any oil or grease. Martin Harris - Moderator
Perhaps a picture of the job would help? Adhesives normally work best in shear so some mechanical support (as per Denis' suggestion) may be the answer. It would also help to know what type of "hard plastic" is involved. Anthony Pratt 1
Thanks Guys that gives me some ideas to work to. Having now cut the top off the fuselage the motor mount has a raised ring around the outside which locates in a moulded recess in the fuz. this has now become enlarged in places allowing the mount to rock. Now the dog can see the rabbit as they say. thanks again. Tony
Gordon Tarling
Foam-Tac is the adhesive to use for sticking almost anything to foam. Available from the usual online sellers, though it's not cheap.
Bob Cotsford
I have used Gorilla glue in my Wot 4 and Acrowot foamies to take up the slop in motor mountings. Don't overdo it or it will expand to fill any voids it can find including the back of the motor, battery spaces and the like!
